Objectives:

Objectives To improve the health status of the community by placing the responsibilities in their own hands through empowerment To enhance service utilisation through ownership of health and other development institutions To involve PRIs , informal leaders , NGOs, SHGs , people’s organisations in health and nutrition activities and services

VHSCs:

VHSCs One committee for each village panchayath : constituted in all the 12,619 village panchayaths In town panchayath areas one committee for every three thousand population :2540 committees for 561 town panchayaths

Special invitees:

Special invitees Special invitees may be PRI members including ward members from the area Any other member who may be useful for the functioning of the committee SHG representative and Anganwadi Workers to be nominated in turns by the chair person : if necessary more members can be included as special invitees

Financial assistance:

Financial assistance Annual grant of Rs. 10,000 is given for each committee under NRHM

Bank account:

Bank account Joint bank account in the name of the Chairperson and the VHN Account to be opened in the in the interface bank notified by the GOI or in a nationalised bank

Accounts:

Accounts VHN should maintain the register of funds received and expenditure incurred SHN, CHN, PHC MO and Panchayath should ensure proper utilisation of funds

Monthly meetings:

Monthly meetings At least one meeting per month to be conducted One third of the members is the quorum for the meeting Minutes to be recorded by the VHN

Roles and Responsibilities Assessing, analysing, prioritizing and developing area specific health plans foe each village / habitation Building awareness on key issues on health and determinants of health Community mobilisation Facilitating the delivery of RCH outreach services

Roles and Responsibilities Promoting community involvement in disease prevention activities Community monitoring of referral compliance of high risk mothers and newborns Surveillance and notification of communicable diseases for organising control measures

Roles and Responsibilities Promoting FW services with special focus on NSV Ensuring the provision of protected drinking water Encouraging the un reached to avail the basic services Demand generation for basic services

Roles and Responsibilities Community analyses of causes of infant deaths and maternal deaths and taking necessary action to prevent deaths Contacting medical emergency and referral control room in case of emergencies and arranging for vehicles Community monitoring for prevention of female infanticide / foeticide

Roles and Responsibilities Facilitating Birth and Death registration Facilitating the identification and distribution of cash benefits to the eligibel beneficiaries under Dr. Muthu Lakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme , JSY, Female child protection scheme etc Full support and follow up to all health interventions and the needs in the area
