The Adyar region supported a wide variety of flora, insects, birds, crabs and fish. Approximately 200 species of migratory birds visited the Adyar Estuary in the past.
The wetlands helped to recharge groundwater. Mangrove trees and estuarine vegetation functioned as natural barriers against cyclones and storms and played a major role in cleaning the Adyar River. Adyar Eco Park
