THE SPIRIT OF EVANGELISM This session will discuss: A Spirit of Love for Christ A Spirit of Love for Souls A Spirit of Abandonment & Self-denial

Slide 2:

* If we love Christ, we will want His heart to rejoice instead of grieve. - All of Heaven rejoices when sinners repent. (Luke 15:7) - The very heart of God is grieved over sin. (Gen 6:5-6) * If we love Christ, we will want His will to be done on earth. - We must pray for God ’ s will to be done. (Matt 6:10, Luke 11:2) - We must actually do the will of God on earth. (Heb 13:21) - God ’ s will is that none should perish but that all should repent. (2Peter 3:9) A SPIRIT OF LOVE FOR CHRIST

Slide 3:

If we love Christ, we simply will obey Him . (John 14:15, 1John 5:2-3) - Loving Christ while disobeying Christ is a contradiction - All that God requires is good (Deut 10:12-13), all that God requires is love. (Deut 6:5, Matt 22:37-40, Mark 12:30-31, Luke 10:27) If we love Christ, we will want Him to receive the object of His suffering - Christ died for the whole world and wants all to be saved. (John 3:16, 1John 2:2, 2Peter 3:9, 1Tim 2:6) - We are to be co-laborers with God in reconciling the whole world unto Him. (1Cor 3:9, 2Cor 5:11-19)

A SPIRIT OF LOVE FOR SOULS If we love Christ, we will follow Christ, which means we will love the world and give ourselves for it. Christ gave Himself for the whole world because He loves the whole world. (John 3:16, Gal 1:4, Gal 2:20, 1Tim 2:6) Those that are Christ’s follow Him! (John 10:27) If we love Christ, and thereby follow Christ, we will even love our enemies. Christ loved His enemies. (Romans 5:7-8) We too must love even our enemies. (Matt 5:44, Luke 6:27, Luke 6:35) Love must be universal. (Luke 6:33) If we love our enemies, we will seek their well-being; we will seek their reconciliation to God.

Slide 5:

If we love souls, we will want to put a stop to sin! Sin is harmful to all but obedience is beneficial to all. (Deut 10:12-13) The only way to put a stop to sin is reconciliation through Christ. (John 15:4-6) The purpose of the atonement was to put a stop to sin! (Eph 2:10, Eph 5:25-27, Gal 1:4, Col 1:21-23, Titus 2:14)

A SPIRIT OF ABANDONMENT & SELF DENIAL A radical change in our value system is necessary for the furthering of the gospel - A man seeks whatever he values. (Matt 13:46) - A mans heart is where his treasure is. (Matt 6:21, Luke 12:34) - Therefore if we are to truly seek souls, with our heart, we must value them as God values them. - We must abandon the worldly, earthly, value system and replace it with a godly, a heavenly value system. (Luke 15:7)

Slide 7:

A spirit of disregard for our own well-being is absolutely necessary whenever our own well-being comes into collision with furthering the gospel. - Sometimes taking your own well being into account is to the furtherance of the gospel. We must eat and sleep, etc if we plan on living long in order to reach many. (Luke 8:23) - Sometimes disregarding your own life is required by the furtherance of the gospel, such as the cross of Christ (Matt 16:21, Mark 8:31, Mark 9:12, Luke 9:22, Luke 17:25) and Christian martyrdom. (Acts 9:16) - But we must not set up our own well-being, welfare, or happiness as the ultimate purpose for which we live. We must supremely love God and equally love neighbor (Luke 10:27), and choose to deny ourselves. (Matt 16:24, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23) - Whether by life or by death, we must seek to glorify God and win souls! (Phil 1:20)
