Structural work has begun on the sixth floor of the nine floor new center for learning and literacy in San Diego. The exciting civic project is progressing on time and on budget. Glass doors here will open wide during good weather to create a large, open public space.Slide 4: Interior wall work has begun on the first floor.Slide 5: Second floor space.Slide 6: Work on fifth floor waffle structure. The concrete waffle forms add strength to building allowing for extra weight of books.Slide 7: View of East Arcade. Below the overhangs to the right will be large glass-enclosed alcoves with seating and views onto Park Boulevard.Slide 8: From third floor with Coronado Bridge in view.Slide 9: Steel and concrete work underway on sixth floor deck.Slide 10: Work on sixth floor begins.Slide 11: The shaded courtyard in the foreground will feature a café and will serve as a town square for brown-bag concerts, author talks, civic events or intimate gatherings .Slide 12: Aerial view.
