OUR SCHOOLYARD HABITAT at East Elementary in Greenville, PA

Slide 2:

Spring 2000 In the spring of 2000, we began creating our schoolyard habitat.

Slide 3:

The area we chose was just a grassy place in the schoolyard.

Slide 4:

White Rock donated large slabs of rock and students broke the rocks into smaller pieces.

Slide 5:

The rock was used to build a wall around our future pond and to border the gardens.

Slide 6:

Students worked hard that spring.

Slide 7:

The garden was planted and mulched and the pond area was filled with topsoil.

Slide 8:

Our hard work paid off. Our garden was beautiful!

Slide 9:

Fall 2000 Work began anew in the Fall of 2000.

Slide 10:

Compost bins were added to the habitat. Leaves were raked and decorations made.

Slide 11:

Our garden was beautiful!

Slide 12:

Feeding the birds and filling the compost bins keeps us busy in the winter. Winter 2001

Slide 13:

We installed the pond that spring. Spring 2001 …and a sand pit to track animals.

Slide 14:

White Rock donated a tri-axle load of gravel for paths and work areas.

Slide 15:

It was hard work spreading the rock!

Slide 16:

After a lot of hard work, our garden was beautiful again!

Slide 17:

Summer 2001 When we came back to school at the end of the summer, there was more work to do!

Slide 18:
