Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide 1: OUR SCHOOLYARD HABITAT at East Elementary in Greenville, PA Slide 2: Spring 2000 In the spring of 2000, we began creating our schoolyard habitat. Slide 3: The area we chose was just a grassy place in the schoolyard. Slide 4: White Rock donated large slabs of rock and students broke the rocks into smaller pieces. Slide 5: The rock was used to build a wall around our future pond and to border the gardens. Slide 6: Students worked hard that spring. Slide 7: The garden was planted and mulched and the pond area was filled with topsoil. Slide 8: Our hard work paid off. Our garden was beautiful! Slide 9: Fall 2000 Work began anew in the Fall of 2000. Slide 10: Compost bins were added to the habitat. Leaves were raked and decorations made. Slide 11: Our garden was beautiful! Slide 12: Feeding the birds and filling the compost bins keeps us busy in the winter. Winter 2001 Slide 13: We installed the pond that spring. Spring 2001 …and a sand pit to track animals. Slide 14: White Rock donated a tri-axle load of gravel for paths and work areas. Slide 15: It was hard work spreading the rock! Slide 16: After a lot of hard work, our garden was beautiful again! Slide 17: Summer 2001 When we came back to school at the end of the summer, there was more work to do! Slide 18: Even grandparents helped!! Slide 19: Soon our garden was beautiful again! Slide 20: The PTO added a pavilion to our habitat and we had a ribbon cutting ceremony. Slide 21: The PTO also sold bricks for a walkway from the pavilion to the habitat.
