DEFINITION OF BURN :

DEFINITION OF BURN A burn is damage to the skin and underlying tissues caused by heat, chemicals, or electricity.

TYPES OF BURNS :

TYPES OF BURNS Four types of burns:- Thermal Radiation Chemical Electrical

TYPES OF BURNS :

TYPES OF BURNS 1. Thermal:-Thermal burns are generally the most common type of burn and result from exposure to or contact with steam, flames, flash, and hot surfaces or hot liquids with a temperature above 115º F. (e.g., boiling water at 212º F. (100º C.).

TYPES OF BURNS :

TYPES OF BURNS 2. Radiation:- Radiation burn is damage to the skin or other biological tissue caused by exposure to radio frequency energy or ionizing radiation.

TYPES OF BURNS :

TYPES OF BURNS 3. Chemical:- A chemical burn occurs when living tissue is exposed to a reactive chemical substance such as a strong acid or base

TYPES OF BURNS :

TYPES OF BURNS 4. Electrical:- Electrical burns occur when a person is directly exposed to an electrical current.

DEGREE OF BURNS :

DEGREE OF BURNS First-degree burns are usually limited to redness (erythema), a white plaque and minor pain at the site of injury. These burns only involve the epidermis.

DEGREE OF BURNS :

DEGREE OF BURNS Second-degree burns manifest as erythema with superficial blistering of the skin, and can involve more or less pain depending on the level of nerve Second-degree burns involve the superficial (papillary) dermis and may also involve the deep (reticular) dermis layer. Major Second Degree Burn caused by contact with boiling water.

DEGREE OF BURNS :

DEGREE OF BURNS Third-degree burns occur when the epidermis is lost with damage to the hypodermis. Burn victims will exhibit charring and extreme damage of the dermis, and sometimes hard eschar will be present. Third-degree burns result in scarring and victims will also exhibit the loss of skin hair and keratin.

DEGREE OF BURNS :

DEGREE OF BURNS Fourth-degree burns damage muscle, tendon, and ligament tissue, thus result in charring and catastrophic damage of the hypodermis.

DEGREE OF BURNS :

DEGREE OF BURNS Fifth-degree burns result in hypodermis being burnt off, leaving blackened muscle, tendon, and ligament, with damage to compact bone, and spongy bone . Sixth-degree burns leaving blackened bone and damaging marrow tissue, these burns will definitely require amputation.
