Lesson Targets :Lesson Targets I can list several important functions of the integumentary system.
I can identify the epidermis, dermis, hair follicle, sebaceous gland and sweat gland on a diagram of the skin.
I can describe the characteristics of each layer of the skin.
I can explain the function of melanin in the skin.
I can create a website/webpage using Weebly.

Have you seen this before? :Have you seen this before? Look at this photo of the
skin with a disorder…you
have probably seen this
before but not as close

diagnosis? Image from www. imageenvision.com
Think about it… :Think about it… Your skin is the largest organ in your body! It weighs approximately 8 pounds and covers a surface area of 22 square feet. You have about 300 million skin cells, and every minute you shed up to 40,000 of them. The photo in the last slide was of a cat scratch on the skin. Scratches generally heal and the dead skin is shed so they disappear.

INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM PAGE:
Make a list of several important functions of the integumentary system with a brief explanation.
2. Include an image of a labeled cross section of skin.
Give a brief explanation of the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Include a description of any structures you would like to remember in each.
