What Is An Intelligence? "An intelligence is the ability to solve problems, or to create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings." --Howard Gardner, Frames of Mind

UsingMultiple Intelligence for Active Learning :

UsingMultiple Intelligence for Active Learning Different Children Different Strokes

So what about MI? :

So what about MI? Its not how much but HOW the child is intelligent - Accept Exposure to all Intelligences - all round development I learn best through my Intelligence - accelerate learning

Natural Potential - 1 :

Natural Potential - 1 Its not how much but HOW the child is intelligent - Hence - no comparison, no standard scale of measurement So if my child is more musically inclined that does not mean that he is less intelligent than the neighbour’s child who does wonders in maths tests. They are both DIFFERENTLY intelligent.

Natural Potential - 2 :

Natural Potential - 2 Each one of us is born with “strengths” and gravitate towards activities involving them - Hence – acceptance of my child’s strong intelligence So if my child all the time seems to be wanting to “dance” do I constantly nag her to study? Fortunately we have observed that when we ACCEPT the child the way the child is – they are actually more than willing to “make up” in the other areas. Don’t we all like to be accepted and valued for what we are?

Natural Potential - 3 :

Natural Potential - 3 I would naturally excel in fields involving my strong intelligences - Hence – encouragement of those as possible career choices Fortunately in today’s world there are enough opportunity for anybody to excel, taste success and build a successful career in fields related to any intelligence. Everybody doesn't need to be a engineer or a doctor or an IT professional. All as parents we need to do is recognize and encourage the child’s natural intelligence.

All round development :

All round development Exposure to all Intelligences – Don’t give importance to only few – expand the child’s development by exposing to all. One realise that each one of us have all the eight intelligences. Its just the difference of expertise of each. Two, in life to be successful, we do require a combination of intelligences – hence lets develop all to a minimum level. Three, and the most important reason is that for a child to discover which intelligence he or she is SMART in - it is important that he or she is exposed to activities involving all the eight intelligences.

Accelerated Learning :

Accelerated Learning Child learn best through child’s strong intelligences. Instead of teaching through our intelligence lets make the child learn through his/her intelligence Once we shift focus from a “teacher taught” approach to a learner learned approach – we realise the significance and impact of each child learning through his/her intelligence. So do we want learning to be interesting and enjoyable for the child? So if we want child to understand “fractions” – can we teach the “visual” through pictures, Body-kinesthetic through physical play, musical through rhythms and its parts and so on. The next few slides give more examples of this:

The Key Questions :

The Key Questions

So, where do I start? :

So, where do I start? Using any 1 or 2 intelligences – except for verbal - Design an activity for 5-6yr olds to learn concept of different “Punctuation mark” It is easy You do not need to be an expert in ALL the intelligences. Change the way you see – use MI frame work
