There are many kinds of landforms like deserts, mountains and valleys. How are Landforms Made? Some landforms are created by the action of wind, water and ice. This action physically changes the Earth’s surface by carving and eroding land surfaces , carrying and depositing soil , sand and other debris . Crustal movement and other tectonic activity inside Earth create landforms; mountains, faults , sinks, and volcanoes .Slide 3: Types of landforms Mountains 7. Volcanoes Hills 8. Delta Plains 9. Valleys Plateau 10. Oceans Islands 11. Beaches 6. DesertsSlide 4: Mountains Of India A mountain is a very tall high, natural place on Earth - higher than a hill. The tallest mountain on Earth is Mt. Everest. A mountain has 4 main characteristics 1. High, rocky land 2. Steep sides 3. Pointed or rounded top 4. Higher than a hillSlide 5: The Himalayan range is considered as the world's highest mountain range , with its tallest peak Mt. Everest on the Nepal–China border. The Himalayas extend from Jammu and Kashmir in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the east. Kanchenjunga —on the Sikkim–Nepal border—is the highest point in the area administered by India. The Karakoram is situated in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir. It has more than sixty peaks above 7,000 m (22,966 ft), including K2 , the second highest peak in the world The Patkai, or Purvanchal , are situated near India's eastern border with Myanmar. They were created by the same tectonic processes which led to the formation of the Himalayas. The Vindhya range runs across most of central India. The Satpura Range begins in eastern Gujarat near the Arabian Sea coast and runs east across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Aravali Range is the oldest mountain range in India, running across Rajasthan from northeast to southwest direction The Western Ghats or Sahyadri mountains run along the western edge of India's Deccan Plateau and separate it from a narrow coastal plain along the Arabian Sea. The Eastern Ghats are a discontinuous range of mountains, which have been eroded and vivisected by the four major rivers of southern India, the Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna, and Kaveri .Slide 6: Mt . Everest The Kangchenjunga The Vindhya The Karakoram Mt. EverestSlide 7: Hills of India A hill is a raised area or mound of land. The distinction between a hill and a mountain is unclear and largely subjective, but a hill is generally somewhat lower and less steep than a mountain.Slide 8: Tiger Hill is a mountain in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the highest peak in the sector, and its recapture was the most important objective for Indian forces during the Kargil War. Hari Parbat (Hindi: हारी पर्बत ) is a hill overlooking Srinagar, the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is the site of a Durrani fort, built in 1808. Nandi Hills or Nandidurg ( Anglicised forms include Nandidrug and Nandydroog ) is an ancient hill fortress of southern India, in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state. Magnetic Hill is a gravity hill located near Leh in Ladakh , India. The hill is alleged to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars uphill and force passing aircraft to increase their altitude in order to escape magnetic interference; in reality, the effect is an optical illusion created by the gravity hill . Susunia Hill is a known archeological and fossil site. Fossil remains of Lion, Giraffe, Hyaena and many other animal species have been discovered from areas around.Slide 9: Magnetic Hill Nandi Hill Tiger Hill Hari ParbatSlide 10: Plains of india A plain has 3 main characteristics 1. Land 2. Broad, flat, or gently rolling areas 3. Low in elevationSlide 11: The Indo- Gangetic plain is very famous. It is extremely fertile and is in the northern part of India. The Eastern coastal and Western coastal are other regions which are part of the plains in India. The Indo- Gangetic plains, also known as the "Great Plains," are large floodplains of the Indus and the Ganga -Brahmaputra river systems. A volcanic plateau is a plateau produced by volcanic activity. The Deccan Plateau (also called the (Great Peninsular Plateau ) is a large plateau in India. The largest and highest plateau in the world is the Tibetan Plateau , called the " roof of the world “.Slide 14: Deccan Plateau Tibetan plateau Malwa plateauSlide 15: Islands of india An island has 2 main characteristics 1. Area of land 2. Surrounded by water India has two island chains gifted by the sea. The Andaman & Nicobar group in the Bay of Bangal and the Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea. Each forming India's own union territory and pride.Slide 16: Andaman islands Lakshadweep island Elephanta islandSlide 17: Deserts of india A desert has 4 main characteristics 1. Super-dry air 2. Little rain – less than 10 inches a year 3. High daytime temperatures 4. Lots of wind The Thar Desert is the Great Indian Desert and lies in Rajasthan. It also extends into Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat. It is full of sand dunes. Several species of lizards and snakes are found. Not many inhabitants live their. The climate is extremely hot.Slide 18: Thar deserts Kutch deserts Bajra is the main kharif crop In tharSlide 19: Volcanoes in india A volcano is a mountainous vent in the Earth's crust. When a volcano erupts, it spews out lava, ashes, and hot gases from deep inside the Earth.Slide 20: These are found in the Andaman Islands such as Barren Islands, Baratang , Narcondam and Deccan Traps. Baratang contains the only known examples of mud volcanoes in India. Barren Island is the only confirmed active volcano in South Asia . Volcanoes in indiaSlide 21: barren-island-volcano mud volcano at Baratang Narcondam volcano active-volcano-mud-volcanoSlide 22: A delta is a low watery land formed at the mouth of a river . It is formed from the silt, sand and small rocks that flow downstream in the river and are deposited in the delta. A delta is often (but not always ) shaped like a triangle (hence its name, delta, a Greek letter that is shaped like a triangle). deltas In indiaSlide 23: Godavari river delta Ganges Delta Bangladesh kaveri delta krishna kaveri deltaSlide 24: Valleys In india A valley is a low place between mountains. The Damodar Valley , Jharkahand and West Bengal. It contains a lot of mineral deposits , which includes coal and mica. The Araku valley in Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh attracts a lot of tourists. It is endowed with luscious green trees and plants and bounties of nature. The Kashmir valley is very beautiful. It has eye-catching scenic beauty.Slide 25: Valleys of flowers Araku valley damodar river valley Kashmir valleySlide 26: Glaciers In india Glaciers – . A glacier is a large mass of ice that acts like a river , flowing downhill under the influence of gravity. Glaciers are "born" at high elevations where snow builds up over many years without significant melting. Siachen Glacier is the second longest glacier outside of the polar regions and largest in the Himalayas-Karakoram region. The Siachen Glacier oasts the world's highest helipad, built by India . The world's more famous glaciers include the Gangotri and Yamunotri highest battlefield is also located on the glacier . Some of the other (Uttarakhand), Nubra etcSlide 27: Siachen Glacier Siachen Glacier Gangotri Glacier Yamunotri glaciersSlide 28: Beaches In india A beach is a geological landform along the shoreline of an ocean, sea or lake . It usually consists of loose particles which are often composed of rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles. There are several beaches in India which are famous for their scenic beauty. In Goa , one comes across several beaches. Here, the Arambol beach is famous as well as the Anjuna Beach and many more, The Vizag beach is famous in Andhra Pradesh . In Madras, the Marina beach is popular.Slide 29: vizag beach, andhra pradesh anjuna beach, goa Arambol beach, Goa marina beach , chennaiSlide 30: Presentation by Geeta Singh You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
