Introduction :

Introduction The following power point presentation gives an overview on using the IPOD and IPAD in the classroom for instruction. It shows the California state standards as well as the Functional Performance Indicators. It focuses on the APP called “Teach Me”. It has for areas that it covers: reading, spelling, addition, and subtraction.

Instructional strategy- Using the IPAD and IPOD. I began using the IPAD and IPOD touches in my classroom just a month ago. The students have already improved in their skills and remain engaged throughout the entire center. Being that there are so many available APPS for the IPAD and IPOD touch the lesson can easily be differentiated and requires less materials. Another benefit with using the IPOD touches and the IPAD is there is an APP for the 5 domains in the Basics 2 curriculum.

Example of a Lesson Plan Functional Academics Plan Title: IPAD Functional Academics: Read with me books Lesson Plan Title: IPAD Functional Academics: Read with me books Concept / Topic To Teach: Reading Standards Addressed: CAPA: ELA 18, Sate Standard: ELA 1.1.1, Basics 2: FA 1.3 General Goal's): Keep student engaged and attended to a book. Specific Objectives: Students who have a short attention span will remain engaged and focused on a book that teaches them how to read, track left to right, and listen. Required Materials: Read with me Stories APP for IPAD Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Student will begin with help from the teacher. The teacher will give step by step direction on how to use the IPAD appropriately and with care. A lesson will be given to the entire group on how to handle the IPAD and the APPS provided for them. Step-By-Step Procedures: Student or teacher will find the Read with me Stories APP on the IPAD Student or teacher will find a book to read Student will listen to the book pressing a button to turn the pages Plan For Independent Practice: When the student is familiar with the IPAD they will be able to use it in an independent center with minimal teacher supervision to ensure the student is using it carefully Assessment Based On Objectives: with teacher observation and charts progress will be tracked.

Example of a Lesson Plan Domestic Lesson Plan Title: IPAD Domestic: Healthy Cooking for Primary Schools Recipes Concept / Topic To Teach: Following Recipes Standards Addressed: CAPA: H 6, Sate Standard: H 2.7.3 N, Basics 2: D 3.4 General Goal(s ): Student will make a meal by following the recipe Specific Objectives: Students will make a meal by using the step-by-step recipe guide on the IPAD. They will use this until they can do it independently Required Materials: Healthy Cooking for Primary Schools Recipe APP for IPAD Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Student will begin with help from the teacher. The teacher will give step-by-step direction on how to use the IPAD appropriately and with care. A lesson will be given to the entire group on how to handle the IPAD and the APPS provided for them. Step-By-Step Procedures: Student or teacher will find the Healthy Cooking for Primary Schools Recipe APP Student or teacher will follow the directions on the IPAD to make the food Student will eat the food Plan For Independent Practice: When the student is familiar with the IPAD they will be able to use it in an independent center with minimal teacher supervision to ensure the student is using it carefully Assessment Based On Objectives: with teacher observation and charts progress will be tracked.

The teacher will give step-by-step direction on how to use the IPAD appropriately and with care. A lesson will be given to the entire group on how to handle the IPAD and the APPS provided for them. Step-By-Step Procedures: Student or teacher Let teacher know how they are felling by touching the appropriate emotion. Student or teacher will try to change the negative feelings to positive feelings Plan For Independent Practice: When the student is familiar with the IPAD they will be able to use it in an independent use the APP to express their emotions. Assessment Based On Objectives: with teacher observation and charts progress will be tracked.

Example of a Lesson Plan Recreation and Leisure Lesson Plan Title: IPAD Recreation and Leisure Concept / Topic To Teach: Play a computer Game Standards Addressed: CAPA: ELA 16, Sate Standard: ELA 4.1.9, Basics 2: RL 2.8 General Goal(s ): Teach students How to make an appropriate choice during Recreation and Leisure Specific Objectives: Students will learn How to use down time by selecting educational games to play on the IPAD Required Materials: Many Educational Game APPS Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Student will begin with help from the teacher. The teacher will give step-by-step direction on how to use the IPAD appropriately and with care. A lesson will be given to the entire group on how to handle the IPAD and the APPS provided for them. Step-By-Step Procedures: Student or teacher will select an educational game on the IPAD Student or teacher will play games appropriately while using down time. Plan For Independent Practice: When the student is familiar with the IPAD they will be able to use it during any down time during the school day. This will minimize behaviors and keep the student engaged. Assessment Based On Objectives: with teacher observation and charts progress will be tracked

Specific Objectives: Students will learn about public transportation and attempt to use their new knowledge Required Materials: Functional Skills System: Public Transportation signs and words APP for IPAD Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Student will begin with help from the teacher. The teacher will give step-by-step direction on how to use the IPAD appropriately and with care. A lesson will be given to the entire group on how to handle the IPAD and the APPS provided for them. Step-By-Step Procedures: Student or teacher will find the Functional Skills System, Public Transportation Signs and Words APP on the IPAD Student or teacher will go over the signs and words together to gain knowledge on topic Student will practice what they learned with real hands on experience. Plan For Independent Practice: When the student is familiar with the IPAD they will be able to use it in an independent center with minimal teacher supervision to ensure the student is using it carefully. There is an abundance amount of applications that can be downloaded onto the Iphone or Ipod that students can carry with them throughout the day.
