The Facts about Plastic::

The Facts about Plastic: #1 Plastic = soft drink, water, juice, sport drink, mouthwash, beer catsup and salad dressing bottles. Also food containers used for jelly, peanut butter and pickles is #1 plastic. #2 Plastic = Milk jugs, juice, cosmetics, shampoo, detergents and many household cleaners. #3 thru #7 Plastics = Butter cups, yoghurt cups, tea jugs, coffee lids, soda cups from restaurants. The Number of the plastic will be usually on the bottom of the container. We do not except Oil containers or filters. All containers need to be washed out and free from residue. Lids removed from bottles.

Facts about Glass Steel and Aluminum Glass: We except all colors of glass bottles and jars. Please remove caps and lids. All containers must be rinsed out. Steel: Steel and Tin food and beverage cans, rinse out food residue, item will not be excepted if it has not been cleaned. Aluminum: Foil, pie plates and soda cans, rinse out residue.

Facts about Paper, Mixed Paper, Cardboard Cardboard: Corrugated cardboard , to include brown paper bags. Box’s must be broken down. White Ledger/File Stock: Includes white notebook paper, copier and computer paper, shredded paper(long cut only, pulverized shred is not acceptable). Does NOT include bright florescent and dark colored paper, yellow sticky tabs, envelopes with plastic windows, carbon or carbonless paper. Paper should be free of paper clips, binders, covers and glued bindings The Recycle Center does NOT accept Personally Identifiable Information and other sensitive material. For questions on what to do with PII contact DHR at 240-0360. Mixed Paper: This consists of colored paper, manila folders, envelopes, catalogs, phone books, pressboard(cereal box’s) and glued bindings. Please keep the mixed paper separate from the White. Newspaper: No inserts(inserts must go in with the mixed paper)

Facts on Toner Cartridges, Pallets and Styrofoam Toner Cartridges: Total collected for FY10: 2,215 Wooden Pallets: Please sort by size and stack neatly Styrofoam: NEW ITEM , we accept only clean white foam, must be free from debris such as tape, staples etc. Items NOT accepted at the Recycle Center: Electronic waste, bubble wrap, light bulbs, medical supplies, batteries, paint, plastic bags, ceramics, yard waste or food waste. 24-Hour Recycle Drop-Off Points are located on G. Street next to the Recycle Center and in the parking lot of the old PX, Bldg. 6914.

Facts on Yard Waste Items excepted for composting: Leaves, grass clippings and horse manure. Compost is available for use free of charge Some of our compost is currently being used for the Community Victory Garden in the family housing areas.

Facts on Household hazardous Waste Only items purchased for use in a personal residence are allowed to be turned in to the HHW facility, only Fort Riley Residents may turn in items. Any Dept. of Defense ID card holder may pick up items for reuse. Some of the items accepted are: Abrasive cleaners or powders Paint Ammonia based cleaners Motor oils Mothballs Disinfectants Household cleaners Pesticides

Fuel/Oil Filters Off-specification fuel POL-contaminated soils: Soils excavated from spills and wash rack sediment from military vehicle wash racks is placed at the facility for remediation.
