Jesus makes the bread and wine disappear, allowing His Body and Blood to take their place. And what does the priest do? The priest lends his voice and his hands to Jesus who is the one who performs the miracle of the Holy Mass. Only the appearances remain in the bread and wine : Only the appearances remain in the bread and wine In the Eucharist, the substance of bread and wine are converted into the Body and Blood of Jesus. But the appearances of bread and wine remain. This means that the size of the bread, the color, the smell, the taste do not change because these are its appearances. The Consecration : The Consecration When the priest has ended saying This is my Body, bread ceases to be bread. The Lord’s Body takes its place. And when he has ended saying This is cup of my Blood, wine ceases to be wine. The Lord’s Blood takes its place. This does not mean that the Body is separated from the Blood. Where the Body or the Blood of the Lord is, there is Christ entire and whole. Jesus is wholly there in the Eucharist : Jesus is wholly there in the Eucharist This means that Jesus is in the Eucharist with His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. He is the same one who is in Heaven together with His Father, the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and the saints. Transubstantiation : Transubstantiation The term transubstantiation refers to the miracle through which Jesus converts the bread and wine into the same Jesus who is in Heaven. Jesus neither changes nor leaves Heaven. Rather, He performs the miracle through the priest’s pronunciation of the words of the Consecration. Jesus thus begins to be in what was bread and wine. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus is in us, and He also stays inside the tabernacle? : Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus is in us, and He also stays inside the tabernacle? Jesus remains there as long as the appearances remain. END Lord Jesus, cleanse me with Your Blood, a drop of which can save all men from the crimes of this world.
