The Last Supper Jesus wanted to celebrate the Passover with His disciples. : Jesus wanted to celebrate the Passover with His disciples. The Passover was the most important feast of the Jews. Everybody went to Jerusalem to celebrate it with their families and friends. Jesus ordered that they prepare all that was necessary to celebrate the Passover. : Jesus ordered that they prepare all that was necessary to celebrate the Passover. They should prepare the lamb and sacrifice it in the Temple. Other things necessary were: the unleavened bread, the wine with a few drops of water, the bitter herbs…. Everything God indicated in Egypt, and the Jews did to remember the freedom from slavery and the Covenant they made in the desert with God. Love one another as I have loved you. : Love one another as I have loved you. Before supper, Jesus covered Himself with towel, and wash the feet of each Apostle. He thus wanted to teach us how we should serve and love one another as Christians: as He has loved us. Jesus institutes the Eucahrist : Jesus institutes the Eucahrist Jesus took bread, blessed it, gave thanks to His Father, and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take and eat. This is my body. Then, He took the cup with wine, and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood.. Jesus spoke of His Real Presence. : Jesus spoke of His Real Presence. Jesus taught us: what I have in my hands, which before was bread, is now My Body. In the same way, this cup that I have in My hands, which before contained wine, now contains My Blood. When we eat food, it becomes part of our body. But when we eat Jesus, we become Jesus in a real and mysterious way. Jesus makes a New Covenant : Jesus makes a New Covenant The sacrifice of the lamb sealed the Old Covenant. Jesus -the Lamb of God- teaches the Apostles that His Blood, shed on the Cross, is the Blood of the new and definitive Covenant of God with men. Whenever you attend the Mass, do not be content with “listening” or “being” there, strive to live it, participating during the Mass, loving the Mass. For this to happen, you must know well all its parts.
