The shot the transitions to a black background where the title of the film is revealed in a cream colour, as it is shown isolated this adds to the importance of the film name. The title is then suddenly broken apart with a number of CGI skulls and glass breaks once again, as the skulls hit the music increases in volume and tempo, the skulls suddenly disappear and fire exploding is shown again, theses images flick back and forth, this adds to the idea of an explosion and also links to the idea of death, this lets the audience know that something bad is going to happen. The institutional details the begin to carry on revealing the names of the actors broken apart with objects hitting the text making glass break e.g. knives and bricks. As the institutional details continues as the texts are broken apart with glass smashing, blood is also shown on the glass as it cracks, this also is linked to the theme of death. As the music is very high in tempo and there is explosions and glass breaking in the intuitional details, this gives the audience the impression that not only is the film going to be a horror but it is also going to be upbeat and have a lot of action.

The shot then continues to show an eye crying out the black ink, this gives the impression that the character might be bad and doing violent stuff towards people, however because the eye is crying and showing emotional, it gives the impression that the character does not enjoy this and could be misunderstood with what they are doing, this puts a contrast on to what the audience believes the film is going to be about and draws them in to the story line. http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcp9Ysi75f0

Grease:

Grease The opening sequence starts with non- d iegetic romantic music begins to play setting a romantic scene then the shot reveals a life action shot scene of a young couple on a beach. The shot then transitions switching to cartoon where diegetic narrative voice over from a radio station begins to talk and then plays diegetic music from the radio station which is the theme song to the film ‘Grease-Frankie Valli ’. A cartoon of each character is then shown getting ready for school, this shows the adience what the character’s personality is like as you get to look at their room which you can really judge a person from as it is their own space so you get to see what the character’s personality is like. As the scene continues the title to the film is then revealed as the character squeezes grease out of a tube and drips down to show the name. A car then appears behind the title and it starts to move, this suggests to the audience that the film is going to be based around cars. Also, underneath the title, the production companies to the film are then revealed ‘Robert Stigwood /Allan Carr production’. As the character at the start squeezed the tube which lead to the film title being shown, this also suggests the person that squeezed the tube is the main character as he is important enough to reveal the film title. The institutional details is then revealed as the short cartoon scene of each character getting ready is revealed, they have used a close up shot characterised cartoon image for each character, this is seen as a profile shot, the font used for the institutional detail is very bold and easy to read, it is also a comic effect font which fits with the cartoon opening sequence theme. As the film is set in 1971, to transition the cartoon scenes to each character to show their institutional details, the shot is transitioned used cartoon fast paced cuts of images/clips of things from that time period e.g. Elvis Presley, this is done to give the audience the idea of what the time was like back then and to show the mise -en-scene of that time period e.g. clothing and cars. As the opening sequence continues after revealing each character, the less important institutional details is revealed on billboards as the characters drive past, it is using the same font as the previous but however it is shown in the background which tells the audience they’re not as important characters.

The text is block and bold and is also outlined in black, this makes it stand out and makes it important, they have also highlighted the number ‘2’ surrounding it with a guitar pick, this brings back the impression of a music theme film and also highlights the fact that the film is a sequel. The institutional details are then revealed on along the bottom of the sreeen on top of the first scene of the film. The text used is white and a bold text, this is friendly and easy to read suitable for the target audience of the film which us suggestly children as it is a Disney production film which is famous for its children animation films.

P.S. I Love You:

P.S. I Love You The opening sequence starts with black screen where non- diegetic music begins to play and the production companies are revealed ‘Warner Bro. Pictures’, ‘Alcon Entertainment’, ‘Wendy Finerman Productions’ and ‘ Grosvener Park Films LLP’. With the non- diegetic music continuing with a depressing tone to it, the shot reveals a life action shot scene of a young married couple arguing, this scene helps the audience understand what the main characters are like and the situation they are in which sets the story for them. After this scene finishes, the shot transitions fading out with another non- diegetic song begin to play with a happy beat to it revealing the institutional details. The font used for the institutional details is a white elegant font which is located at the bottom of the screen with black and white images of the couple with various camera shots e.g. close up, medium shot and long shot. This gives the audience the impression that they have been together a long time as there one photo of them together. Also because the institutional details very plain, this gives the impression that the target audience for the film is adults as it is a very mature, not too bright coloured theme. The title of the film is then next revealed in the same style as the institutional details with an image over the top, as it is set out like this it is giving the impression that that would be the caption to the image located above. As it is a extreme close up of the male’s eyes with the words ‘P.S. I love you’ at the bottom gives the impression that he is saying it to his partner, this automatically lets the audience know that the main character is the female shown at the start of the film and the story is going to be based on a couples relationship from her point of view. The institutional detail then continues on using the same white elegant font but this time on top of series of establishing shots in photo frames setting the scene for the film.

Dear John:

Dear John The opening sequence starts with revealing the company logos of the production companies of the film ‘Sony Pictures Entertainment’ (screen gems), ‘Relativity Media’ and ‘Temple Hill Productions’. The shot then opens with a action scene of a soldier been shot with a narrative voice over explaining what he was thinking whilst he was hurt , this immediately lets the audience know that the film is going to be soldier based and the main character is a male soldier that has been shot. The shot then transitions zooming out into the institutional details shown in a white bold on a long shot of a beach in the warm sunshine which contrasts to first scene of a solider who had been shot in the mud and cold, the institutional details continue to be shown on the beach with a white block font which is clear and easy to read. The shot then goes on to start a scene which reveals the character’s personality, this gives the audience an impression of what he is like and they get to judge what they think of him knowing he gets shot as a soldier later on in the film. The shot then reveals the title to the film in the same small white block text used for the institutional details, as the text is not big and is not centred in the centre of the screen compared to how other film titles are layed out, this gives the impression that it is not as important as other film titles, however it could also be layed in this way to be portrayed as a letter which links in the writing letters throughout the film. Also as the main character is swimming in the background of the title, although he is not clear, he is still the only person visible in shot, this gives the impression that name in the title ‘John’ is the man swimming and he is the main character that we saw in the first scene getting shot.

The Sixth Scense :

The Sixth Scense The opening sequence starts with showing the production company logos which produced the film which are: ‘ Hollywood Pictures’ and ‘ Spyg lass Entertainment’, as the second production company logo appears, an eerie, orchestral, non- diegetic music begins to play which suggests that the film is going to be an eerie, scary, horror genre. The shot then transitions to a black screen where the music continues to play and the institutional details begin to reveal. The text used is a white block text that appears in the centre of the black screen, zooming outwards giving off and enlarging effect as the text grows bigger. This gives the impression that the film is going to be scary as the institutional details are plain black giving no hints away to the film just the eerie music playing in the background. The shot then reveals the title to the film in the same white block capitalised font, the title transitions across the screen in a wipe effect. As the title does this a number of violins begins play a tense short tune. This adds to the weirdness of the institutional details and intensifies the fact that the film is going to be a horror, this set the audience in a scared, vulnerable mood before the film is started, this is done by the tone of the music and the institutional details being plain and not giving away any clues to the film. The title of the film then transitions to give the effect of a shadow walking past the title, this adds to the eeriness of the film and adds to the intenseness of the film.
