3G Service Status Hutchison launched “3” on 2003. Mar. But # of subscribers is low – 1.8M - Lower Hutchison awareness to end-users - Lack of available phones (4 models from NEC, Moto, Nokia) - Short battery time - Low transmission speed and dropped calls Vodafone and other majors will start 3G Service thru May to July NTT Docomo (Oct. ’01), J-Phone (Dec. ’02) - 2,013,700 Subs, 122,800 Subs respectively as of Jan.04) EUROPE JAPAN

Chinese 3G strategy -  Three standards might co-exist in Chinese 3G market. -   Support local companies and own standard. -   Further negotiation about IPR with international companies. - More than two 3G licenses should be released. The operators having telecom infrastructure will be considered first. Foster the 3G market and solve the issues of IOT, billing, diversity of terminals. At Bao’Ao summit, Chief of MII addressed that, in China, 3G commercialization will be evaluated carefully from various of aspects. The time of license releasing depends on technology maturity, obviously, 3G trial results will be most important evidence and criteria.
