The SharePoint Business Data List Connector (BDLC) connects any native SharePoint list (no Web Part or BDC/BCS) directly to almost any external business data, simply in the list settings dialog in just minutes, codeless and bi-directional. ALL SharePoint list features are available as usual, e.g. alerts and workflows, to take business actions in SharePoint, when external data records are changed… LOB Data Connects almost any external LOB data, e.g. - Databases (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Informix…) - Office data (Excel, Access), text files, CRM, ERP… BDLC solves many issues that come with BDC and BCS today. BDLC V3.0 Any SharePoint 2007/2010 list: Contacts, Tasks, Events, KPI, etc.

SharePoint BDLC – What can be connected to SharePoint?:

27.03.2012 2 SharePoint BDLC – What can be connected to SharePoint? Layer2 – The SharePoint Experts from Hamburg (Germany) – www.layer2.de/en/ The BDLC connects almost any external LOB data to SharePoint lists using existing ODBC / OLEDB or .NET based drivers. If there is no driver available, CSV-files can be used.

SharePoint BDLC – Why we made it?:

27.03.2012 3 SharePoint BDLC – Why we made it ? Layer2 – The SharePoint Experts from Hamburg (Germany) – www.layer2.de/en/ Existing solutions such as the Business Data Catalog (BDC, MOSS 2007) and BCS (2010) are not available for all SharePoint editions or for the Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) or they have limitations. The BDLC works with all SharePoint editions and WSS. BDC and BCS (for 2010) are not easy to configure. Tools, XML, customizing or programming are required. The BDLC is easily configured in the list settings with 3 inputs only. Every admin can do it. Existing 3 rd party solutions use Web Parts to display the data – not lists. That causes limitations compared to native SharePoint lists. With the BDLC ALL list features can be used, e.g. views, alerts, workflow. No problems with search at all. SharePoint users are familiar with lists. Lists are the common way to work with data in SharePoint. Most SharePoint features are based on lists, e.g. to take data offline. With the BDLC list alerts and workflows can be used, to start business actions directly in SharePoint, if single external data records are changed. BDLC lists are easy to migrate from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 – no changes at all.
