Your mission is to build a fleet of trucks to help haul away the mess. Slide3: www.build-it-yourself.com Can you imagine what the world would be like without trucks?Slide4: www.build-it-yourself.com Let’s build a truck cab structure first. You’ll need these tools and supplies. 6 coffee stirrer sticks 8”x11” cardboard Scotch tape Pencil Scissors Rulers Low temp hot glue gun Low Temp Hot Glue Gun and glue sticksSlide5: www.build-it-yourself.com Measure 4’’, 3’’, 3” and 1” sections on the brown cardboard sheet. Cut out the pieces. Scotch tape 2 coffee stirrer sticks to keep a 3”x8” strip stiff. 3”Slide6: www.build-it-yourself.com Cut the other 3”x8” strip into two pieces. 1.5” 3”Slide7: www.build-it-yourself.com Cut one of the 1.5”x8” strips down to 1.5”x6”. You should have 5 cardboard strips: 1”x8” 1.5”x6” 1.5”x8” 4”x8” 3”x8” 6” 1.5”Slide8: www.build-it-yourself.com Put Scotch tape on one end of the 1.5”x6” strip. Wrap the other end in a cylinder and tape the ends together. Press the tape to the cardboard tightly to make a good bond. Slide9: www.build-it-yourself.com Make two more cylinders from: 1”x8” strip 1.5”x8” stripSlide10: www.build-it-yourself.com Lay out 4 coffee stirrer sticks so the ends are exactly even. Measure 5”. Draw a line across all sticks. Place the sticks under a ruler and bend each one so it breaks cleanly. 5”Slide11: www.build-it-yourself.com Tape all 4 coffee stirrer sticks to the LARGER 8’x1.5” cylinder. Then add tape to the tops of the coffee stirrer sticks.Slide12: www.build-it-yourself.com Slip the 1”x8” cylinder over the tops of the coffee stirred sticks. You must press the tape to the parts firmly in order to get everything to stick well.Slide13: www.build-it-yourself.com Hot glue the 6”x1.5” cylinder to the 3” platform. Hot glue the cylinder with the coffee stirrer sticks to the platform. Slide14: www.build-it-yourself.com Cut the 4”x8” strip of cardboard as shown. 4” 1”Slide15: www.build-it-yourself.com Tape the 1” strip to the 4” strip. This will be a clamp for the top of the truck cab.Slide16: www.build-it-yourself.com Clamp the cab top by slipping the 1”x4” strip under the top cylinder. Now you are ready to decorate your truck!Slide17: www.build-it-yourself.com After you build the truck cab, think about a use for your truck … sell ice cream, plow snow, bus kids to school, transport turnips, ??? Then build the back of your truck.Slide18: www.build-it-yourself.com You’ll need to collect some premium quality junk to decorate your truck. See if you can identify all the good stuff used in these trucks. Slide19: www.build-it-yourself.com To test your truck, build an obstacle course. Some ideas: Plow candy or junk off the road. Pass through a tunnel. Go around a sharp curve without knocking over a tower.
