INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION Infant welfare is a programme adopted to monitor a child’s growth and development . The clinic starts as soon as the child is delivered. This programme is adopted to take care of both a sick and a healthy child The place where this services are offered is called the INFANT WELFARE CLINIC or CHILD GUIDANCE CLINIC or UNDER FIVE CLINIC.

DEFINITION:

DEFINITION Infant welfare clinic is a department in the hospital or health Centre where newborn 0 to 5yrs are cared for both sick and healthy ones. Infant welfare clinic is a centre , where preventive, promotive , curative, referral and educational services are provided in a package manner

AIM AND OBJECTIVE :

AIM AND OBJECTIVE To monitor growth and development of children between 0-5years and to give necessary advice to the mother To keep in to touch with the mothers, and babies delivered in the hospital or health centre To teach mothers how to rare healthy children and keep them free from disease To detect early signs of illness To immunize children against preventable Childhood killer diseases To provide treatment for minor ailments

REGISTRATION OF THE NEWBORN BABIES:

REGISTRATION OF THE NEWBORN BABIES The newborn babies are registered and also given birth certificate.

GROWTH MONITORING:

GROWTH MONITORING This is one of the most important function of the clinic. The child is weighed periodically- every month during the first year, every 2 monthly from 1 to 3 years of age and every 3 monthly in 4th and 5th years. Besides weighing, measuring height, mid arm circumference can also be carried out depending upon the availability of trained manpower and equipment's. The growth is plotted in the growth chart then growth curve is prepared to monitor the growth of the child.

PHYSICAL GENERAL EXAMINATION OF CHILDREN :

SPECIAL SCREENING TESTS FOR AT RISK INFANT FOR HEARING AND VISION :

SPECIAL SCREENING TESTS FOR AT RISK INFANT FOR HEARING AND VISION Early identification of hearing loss and appropriate intervention within the first 6 months of life in order to take action quickly.

HEALTH EDUCATION TO MOTHERS :

HEALTH EDUCATION TO MOTHERS The midwives should to educate the mother about: C hild care , E xclusive breast feeding, N utrition , G rowth monitoring, I mmunization , H ygience etc…

NUTRITION DEMONSTRATION :

NUTRITION DEMONSTRATION T each and demonstrate to mothers how to cook to their children nutritional meal e.g kwas pap Tell the importance of the meal to the child.

TREATMENT OF MINOR AILMENTS:

TREATMENT OF MINOR AILMENTS Children are treated for acute and chronic illnesses and ailments of growth and development at these clinic. referral of severe cases . Nurse can play an important role in taking care of sick children

IMMUNIZATION SERVICES:

IMMUNIZATION SERVICES Immunizations given to children and infants is the most effective and cost-effective to protect them from the disease tuberculosis (TB), diphtheria, pertussis  ( whooping cough), tetanus (tetanus), poliomyelitis, measles,  and hepatitis B .

COUNSELLING OF MOTHER’S ON INFANT CARE:

COUNSELLING OF MOTHER’S ON INFANT CARE counseling gives mother knowledge of what she should be expecting on her child at every stage of their development. A baby will double his birth weight by 5 months and triple i by one year. The healthy child usually sits with support by the 3rd to the 4th months of life.

Crawling usually takes place between 8 th and 10 th months. Supplementary feeding should be gradually introduce with semi solid food at age of 4-6months By 9th month, he can stand without support. Between 10th and 14th months he can stand without support and walk there after. A normal child should start to speak by imitation at 1 year.
