Microsoft Excel – How to Insert a Picture into a Cell By default Microsoft Excel doesn’t provide any option to insert picture directly into a cell in Excel 2003 or 2007. You can place a picture inside a cell but when you do raw filters / sorts it won’t behave as it should. Even than you can insert a picture into a cell using a small trick. We have the above workbook, we need to insert picture into the column B so when I sort or filter the picture shows hides accordingly. Slide 2: 

Step 1 – Make the row height as big as you want the picture’s height; Using Format  Row  Height; Or short cut Alt-O-R-E say I want the height to be 120

Step 2 –  Right click on the cell  Click on Insert Comment

Step 3 – Delete the username from the comment box by backspace or delete, right click on the border of the comment box (if you right click inside comment text box it won’t work as it shows the properties of text not the comment box)  click on Format Comment

Step 4 – Click on the “Colors & Lines”  in the Fill Section of this tab Click on Color Combo  Select “Fill Effects”

Step 5 – Click on Picture tab of Fill Effects Dialog Box  Click on “Select Picture” button  select the required picture  Click on OK twice

Step 6 – Place and resize the picture so it is inside your required cell in-which you have inserted the comment.

Step 7 –  Right Click on the Cell  select show/hide comments Now you are ready to go, your picture is associated with your cell and will work with all sort filter etc. Please visit: www.exceladvise.com for more
