The timeline The project has a couple of major markers in the calendar – and an aggressive timeline for such a large scale project. But there were a LOT of things that happened in that timeline.

July 2006 idea generated reports read idea refined   August 2006 attended grant application seminars wrote Brooklyn Arts Council applications (included meeting with staff @ BAC) met with Creative Time (Open Door program) got quotes on fabrication researched lighting identified organizational partners research on grants   September 2006 writing grant applications more grant application seminars create photo mock ups (included fabrications and onsite photo shoots) research on grants recruited friends for grant proposal feedback contacted public art coordinator at NYC Parks contacted Ben Jervey, author "Big Green Apple" who connected me to Chris Neidl outreach to developers, local orgs, park conservancies spoke with Sierra Club insurance requests networking   October 2006 put together promotional packets more grant application seminars request for bids on design & printing   November 2006 hired a grant writer wrote application to NYFA fiscal sponsorship created google maps of line writing letters of intent   December 2006 awarded BAC grants researched chalk and pigment   January 2006 wrote application to Jerome &Greenwall began meeting with community boards fabricator quotes built website v. 1 meeting with potential partner organizations began work with Pratt Design Corps on collateral   February 2007 reading more reports phone calls with advisers continued community board meetings received NYFA fiscal sponsorship solicited donations partnered with Canary Project meetings with NASA started low-carbon diet   March 2007 continued meetings with Community Boards meeting with NYC Parks Dept Public Art Coordinator meeting with Dumbo Arts Center curators (coinciding with Art Under the Bridge) called for volunteers search for documentary film maker   April 2007 meet with OEM open bank account order chalk & chalk marker rent storage unit media training   May 2007 lots more community board meetings meeting with DoT commissioner contacting regional parks managers ordering supplies met with fabricator, finalized design applied for park permits bought tricycle writing press releases radio interview receive chalk Launch of project   June 2007 continued project continued community board meetings chalk drawing NYTimes story hits fielding emails and press calls mix chalk and pigment   July 2007 continued project continued press coverage permits for most parks issued contact with city council for additional permits mix chalk and pigment meetings with environmental organizations   August 2007 began working on new project continued project gallery interests more press   September 2007 gallery shows at Nelson Hancock & Like the Spice printing photos and maps for shows delivering works for shows speaking engagements continued project more press last minute permit requests   October 2007 more press speaking opportunities reach out to party sponsors coordinate closing party work with filmmaker on documentary project end date project closing party

Who helped do what The project required a lot of actions and activities to come to fruition And there were a LOT of people who made that happen It is important to remember that you don’t have to do it yourself.
