Irish History Ireland formed a resident part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1801 to 1922. For almost all of this period, Ireland was governed by the Parliament of Great Britain in London through its Dublin Castle Administration. Ireland faced substantial economic difficulties in the 19th century, including the Great Famine of the 1840s. The late 19th century and early 20th century saw a energetic campaign for Irish Home Rule While law allowing Irish Home Rule was eventually passed, energetic and armed opposition from Irish unionists, particularly in Ulster, opposed it. Proclamation was shelved for the duration following the outbreak of the Great War. By 1918, however, moderate nationalism had been eclipsed by militant republican separatism. Ulster Unionism was adamantly opposed to its implementation. Ireland opened the nineteenth century still revolving from the after the effects of the Irish rebellion in 1798 .
Ireland Today:
Ireland Today Ireland is an island northwest of Europe. Ireland is the 3 largest island in Europe, on the east of Ireland there is the large island of Great Britain which is separated by the Irish sea. It is divided between the Republic of Ireland which is 5/6 of the island and Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom which covers the remainder of the island and is located in the Northeast part. The population of Ireland today is around 6.4 million. Fewer than 4.6 million live in the republic of Ireland, and around 1.8 million live in the Northern part of Ireland. Ireland has great and beautiful vegetation. Thick woodland used to cover the island till the 17 th century; today it is one of the most deforested islands in Europe.
