In other words, you can communicate with any participant in the course and anyone can start this communication (Duong ) Its purpose is not discussion, but providing a space for a one-to-one communication (Duong , Hang, Keith, Nida , Anna), where particular concerns (maybe not suitable for open discussion), comments and feedback can be shared with a peer/tutor. It´s like talking Face-to-face with the person sitting next to you in a classroom ( Nida ) May provide a more “secure” place to air ideas, as they are not public (Anna) Could be used for more private exchange of ideas between peers, before “going public” in a forum thread (Keith)PowerPoint Presentation: It is available throughout the course (Hang) It protects your privacy, to a certain extent, as emails are not shared with the group (Marius) It can give the participant the opportunity to communicate with a peer in his(her mother language without alienating every one else ( Dave) It may be the space to share personal or private thoughts with participants you feel close to, or sharing concerns with the moderator. it can lead to spontaneous discussions in which participants can expect an immediate response. Block a contact . By clicking on the green circle you will block a contact and thus, that person will not be able to send you messages through the system. Be careful with enabling this option. Retrieve past messages . Moodle saves all the messages you send to individuals using the MMS. To do this, use the Message History icon , which helps you see the messages that have been sent through the system to individual peers in the group.
