Objectives To introduce the students to the advanced theories in economics. To equip students with analytical tools of economics to understand the current economic reality with perspective of problem solving. To introduce the tools of empirical analysis. To offer a wide range of courses enabling the students in their pursuit of specialization – e.g. Economics of Labour, Social Infrastructure, Industry, Gender, Public and International Economics etc. To organize various curricular and co -curricular academic programmes. Highlights Research projects in collaboration with UGC, ICSSR, Planning Commission, NCERT, BMC, Ministry of WCD, UNFPA, UNDP, UN HABITAT, AIILSG, MMRDA, MAVIM, GOM, GOI etc. Head Office of Economics Students-Teachers Association and Resource Centre is at the department which manages to get sponsorship and organizes various activities like – Student's Seminars, Quiz, Elocution, Essay Competitions etc. Organization of State / National level Seminars, Panel Discussion, Guest Lectures etc. Marathi Arthashastra Parishad Endowment Lecture Co-sponsor of Krishnaraj Memorial Endowment Lecture Co-sponsor of Dr. Neera Desai Memorial Lecture Providing career Guidance Alumni Association and Placement Cell Career Prospects Teaching (school, college and university), research, journalism, NGOs, banks, financial institutions, central and state governments etc. Future Plans Collaboration with other national / international educational institutions. Centre for Advance Studies in Economics   Association with other Academic Bodies Indian Economic Association Indian Academy of Social Sciences Marathi Arthashastra Parishad Indian Association of Women Studies Indian Society of Labour Economics Curriculum Related Plans Research Dissertation (8 credits) and internship (8 credits) will be the integral part of Master Degree curriculum Eligibility M.A. A student is required to have a background in economics at the undergraduate level. The eligibility criteria for students who do not have a background in Economics at the undergraduate level may be decided by the Economics Departments. Prerequisites A student is required to obtain 80 credits for MA degree - 36 credits in core modules and 44 credits in optional modules. Students are required to take two core and two optional modules every semester. Ph.D. Post graduation in Economics with at least 55% and 50% marks for open and reserved category students respectively. Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) is compulsory.
