# 1 It’s Grown up! No kid wants to be seen with “See Jane Run” under his or her arm! Magazines, newspapers are adult and motivate young learners.

#2 It’s REAL! Current events deal with the “here and now” They are about REAL things and make the classroom seem more relevant and alive.

#3 It’s History! : 

#3 It’s History! Not only are current events real but they are “history”. They are objective and personal accounts of history and add to children’s knowledge of the past.

#4 Variety! Current events have something for everyone! News = Civics Horoscopes = Lang. Arts. Business = Math. Comics = Fine Arts / Reading. Sports = P.E.

#5 Practicality Current events material contain practical vocabulary students will use in their lives. It contains practical life lessons and ideas.

#6 Writing models! (A) Newspapers and all journalism contain excellent examples of stylized and communicative writing. The writing is clear, concise and to the point. No poetry or fancy prose!
