Description :

Description Description My intention is for every page which has sounds on it to have a clickable icon to allow the reader to repeat the sound as many times as desired. Unfortunately, none of the websites that I have used are currently able to activate the clickable icon. BUT, there is a way to repeat the sound. Just go back one page (usually takes two clicks on the left side of the screen or the back button) then go forward one page which brings you back to the page with the sound that you want to hear again. Every time a new page with sound is displayed, the sound is heard once.

Slide 80:

MH00-08a-talmeed What is an “idiomatic expression”? An idiom is a phrase where the words together have a meaning that is different from the dictionary definitions of the individual words, which can make idioms hard for language students to understand. Let’s think of some English examples: Whazzup? You go girl! Howdy! The buck stops here. A French letter. Heard it on the grapevine. Kick the can down the road.

Slide 96:

MH00-08a-talmeed Hebrew words frequently use prefixes and suffixes which would be equivalent to separate words in English.

Slide 97:

MH00-08a-talmeed We have already seen the use of a single letter, vav, used as a prefix to mean “and” which would be a separate word in English.

Slide 98:

MH00-08a-talmeed Now we have a suffix used to show possession.

Slide 99:

MH00-08a-talmeed The base word is shalom, the suffix indicates possession by the male you are speaking to.

Slide 111:

MH00-08a-talmeed

Slide 112:

MH00-08a-talmeed NOTE that the change in vowels caused a change in the syllables. The mem was the last letter in the second syllable in the previous word because it had a sh’va (terminator) as its vowel. Now that it has a sounded vowel it becomes the first letter of the third syllable.

Slide 113:

MH00-08a-talmeed WHEN a letter (consonant) has a sounded vowel, that letter starts a new syllable. The letter with its sounded vowel form a syllable. If the syllable does not have a closing letter, the syllable is open. If the syllable has both an opening and a closing letter, the syllable is closed.

Slide 114:

MH00-08a-talmeed This word has three syllables. Are they open or closed? How do you know?

Slide 161:

MH00-08a-talmeed English has three forms of "definiteness" a word can stand alone, it can be preceded by "a" which makes it indefinite or it can be preceded by "the" which makes it definite.

Slide 162:

MH00-08a-talmeed Hebrew has only two forms. A word standing alone is indefinite. To make a word definite, the prefix HA is attached to the beginning of the word.

Slide 163:

MH00-08a-talmeed And a dagaysh is inserted into the first letter of the word along with the HA prefix IF the letter can accept a dagaysh. Remember there are 5 letters which cannot accept a dagaysh.

Slide 164:

MH00-08a-talmeed There are 6 letters which would have already had a dagaysh as the first letter of a word. These will stay the same.
