Building Green Communities :

Building Green Communities “Save The San Pedro River” One Hacienda At A Time

Welcome to “Building Green Communities”. :

Welcome to “Building Green Communities”. Our motto is “Save the San Pedro River by Building Green Communities”. This is a unique community development that combines a complete green environment. We use the latest Green technology from generating electricity to keeping the water that is used, or what Mother Nature provides from rain fall, in the community. The methods used are tried, proven and very successful.

The Hacienda :

The Hacienda The community that we are building is similar to the old Hacienda homes from Mexico. Wealthy Land owners in Mexico would have Haciendas through out their estates that were 4 - 6 hours on horseback from each other. After reviewing these old homes, I saw that the concept was sound, and could be used as a basic unit in a grand scheme of Green Building that would revolutionize Building Green.

The Courtyard :

The Courtyard Stepping into the courtyard through the entrance doors took my breath away, and I knew that I would be building Haciendas some day. The courtyard has an inner porch that is ten feet wide that surrounds the courtyard. Four Comfortable homes are placed at the corners of the Hacienda. The four owners of the Hacienda share the comforts and beauties of the courtyard that is basically an inside garden with fountains. A person therefore could enjoy the beauty of the gardens from the inside porch, or stroll through the garden in the courtyard. The outside of the Hacienda also has a wrap around fifteen foot wide porch It was an experience that removed a person from the chatter and bustle of the outside world and into tranquility.

RASTRA :

RASTRA The construction material of our Hacienda is a product called RASTRA. A green material that is easy to work with, and creates a top of the line insulated home. The material itself will keep the homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter as needed.

Use/Storage of Water in Relation to Landscape :

Use/Storage of Water in Relation to Landscape The landscape is watered through a combination of 4 technologies; The 1st is a setup of cisterns, rain barrels, and pumps. The 2nd is septic water that is filtered and pumped to the shrubbery around the Hacienda. The 3rd technology is wells and pressure tanks. Wells and pressure tanks will always be the basic cornerstone of water in the dessert. The 4th technology is a paving material made from glass that can be used as walkways, driveways, roads, and parking lots that completely absorbs all water that is introduced to the material.

Recycled Glass Paving Material :

Recycled Glass Paving Material Building Green Communities uses Recycled Glass Paving Material to create roads, driveways, and walkways. What this means in an “Environmental Tone” is that all water that comes into contact with the Glass Paving Material is absorbed through the material and channeled into a reservoir or pond. We are able to keep all of the water that Mother Nature gives to us, and use that water over and over again. The water then can be channeled to reservoirs, cisterns, etc… The beauty of the paving material is that it can be laid in several different colors. Imagine having a green driveway, and a light blue walkway. The ideas are endless. It is truly a beauty to behold.

Reuse & Dispersal of Wastewater :

Reuse & Dispersal of Wastewater Building Green Communities uses “Netafim USA” to reuse and disperse Wastewater. Water that would normally go to the septic tank and leach lines to be evaporated into the air, or absorbed back into the ground, can be used on lawns, shrubbery, and trees. Building Green Communities is conscious of what we do and how we use the resources that we are given. Netafim USA is a great concept that uses septic tanks, filters, and lines that lie 6 inches beneath the surface providing water to the roots of the vegetation.

Solar Power :

Solar Power When thinking Green, the first idea that comes to mind is Solar Power, but in the overall picture of Building Green, solar may and may not be a major player. There is much to “Being Green” from the house you build to the products you use. In the area of “Self-Sufficiency” Solar takes on new meaning. Questions such as, what happens when I don’t have power to my house? How do I get water to my house? How long will I be without electricity? What if I have a health issue that needs 24 /7 care requiring electricity? All good questions. That’s why Building Green Communities added Solar Power and backup generators to their communities.

The Outside of the Hacienda: :

The Outside of the Hacienda: Our Hacienda has 4 homes to a unit. Each courtyard enjoys a 10 foot inner porch, and a 15 foot outer porch which is located on the outside of the Hacienda. The residents of the Hacienda share and enjoy the inner courtyard with each other. The outside of the Hacienda’s is a park of trees, shrubby, and flowers.

The Inside of the Hacienda :

The Inside of the Hacienda The inside of the Hacienda has the following: Inside walls made from RASTRA, an environmental friendly building material; water conserving toilets and fixtures, energy saving fluorescent lights and appliances; and a solar hot water system. Each of these elements creates a healthier living environment, conserves valuable resources, and reduces utility bills.

Impact of Building Green :

Impact of Building Green When two or more Haciendas are built, you are truly creating a Neighborhood or a “Green Community”.

Save The San Pedro River :

Save The San Pedro River The four home Haciendas is the basis of our “Green Community”. By applying these principles and others we are being pro active and creating a green environment that our “children’s children” can enjoy. In fact we can say that indirectly we are saving the “San Pedro River” and all other rivers of the area, by being pro active, living in the dessert.

Building Green Communities is as the name suggest, we build “Green Communities”. :

Building Green Communities is as the name suggest, we build “Green Communities”. Building green is important to the community. Whether you are interested in saving the environment or not, building green and thinking green is still a good idea. Every great idea, such as ours, requires a motto. Our motto is “Save The San Pedro River”. The San Pedro River has been an important part of Southern Arizona. At one time the San Pedro River ran year around.

The answer to our water challenges is not to stop humanity and the growth of the state, but to be smarter on how we build, use our water, and other resources. :

The answer to our water challenges is not to stop humanity and the growth of the state, but to be smarter on how we build, use our water, and other resources. Because of draught, the increase of homes in the area and the drilling of wells etc… The San Pedro River has ceased to run year around.
