ADVERBS KINDS OF ADVERBS

Look at these sentences : 

Look at these sentences The old man walked slowly. Rita sang sweetly. The horse runs fast The children played happily.

In all these sentences the words in green show us how the action (in red) is done : 

In all these sentences the words in green show us how the action (in red) is done How did the old man walk?-- slowly How did Rita sing?--sweetly How does the horse run?-- fast How did the children play?—happily The adverbs slowly, sweetly, fast and happily add something to the meaning of the verbs walked, sang, runs and played. These adverbs are called Adverbs of Manner as they show the manner in which some action is done.

Now look at these sentences---- : 

Now look at these sentences---- Henry came yesterday. My fathers comes home late. He will come soon. I shall visit my grandma tomorrow. The adverbs in these sentences show when the action is done.

When did Henry come?When does my father come home? When will he come?When shall I write a letter to her? : 

When did Henry come?When does my father come home? When will he come?When shall I write a letter to her? The words yesterday, soon, late and tomorrow add something to the meaning of the verbs came, will come, comes and shall write. They tell us when the action is done

Such adverbs are called Adverbs of Time :

Here are some more sentences. Let us look at them :

They tell us ‘where’ the action is done. Such adverbs are called Adverbs of Place

Finally, let us observe these sentences :

The word ‘very’ is used with the Adjective ‘beautiful’ and it tells us how (or to what degree) beautiful the flower is.The word ‘almost’ is used with the adjective ’ripe’ and tells us how ripe the mangoes are. :
