Review of Distal Extension Partial Denture Techniques :

www.dentalhealth.in Prof. Dr. S. Venugopal 6 Review of Distal Extension Partial Denture Techniques Mclean’s Technique This technique records tissues of ridges in Functional form and then relating it to remainder of arch by a second impression. Advantages: Reasonable tissue pressure achieved. Disadvantage: Finger pressure on alginate stock tray cannot produce same loading as biting force.

Slide 8:

Venugopal 8 Hindel’s Technique First impression of ridge is made with ZnOE then special trays (with holes) for second impression to apply finger pressure through the holes of tray to underlying impression of ridge. Advantage: Tissue recorded under load. Disadvantage: Tray position can be altered and subsequently premature contacts.

Slide 10:

Slide 13:

Advantage: Soft tissue displacement can be made controlled by controlling the amount of relief provided. Disadvantages: 1.Failure to maintain correct relationship between framework and abutment teeth. 2.Change in vertical dimension.

Slide 15:

www.dentalhealth.in Prof. Dr. S. Venugopal 15 Fluid wax technique Disadvantage: 1.Time consuming. 2.Impression with increased tissue distortion. Procedure: first a custom tray is made, its peripheral extensions are corrected, then border moulding is performed and tray is relieved for impression material

Slide 19:

www.dentalhealth.in Prof. Dr. S. Venugopal 19 Selected pressure technique Objective: TO ACHIEVE RESONABLE PRESSURE Advantages: Reduce residual ridge resorption severity. Disadvantage: Difficult to demarcate the tissues like stress and non-stress bearing areas.

Slide 21:

www.dentalhealth.in Prof. Dr. S. Venugopal 21 Altered cast technique In this, fluid wax technique impression of displaced ridge is made by a tray attached to denture framework and master cast is altered to accommodate new ridge impression hence so called altered cast technique. Disadvantages: 1.More number of steps involved. 2.Difficult procedure.

Simplified Distal Extension Impression Technique :

www.dentalhealth.in Prof. Dr. S. Venugopal 26 Simplified Distal Extension Impression Technique Advantages: 1.Convenient. 2.Less time consuming . 3.Simple. Requirements: Special tray on diagnostic model. Tray adhesive. Putty silicone impression material. medium body silicone impression material.
