Free energy can be expressed in terms of redox potential In redox reactions free energy change is proportionate to the tendenct of reactants to donate or accept electrons So Δ G can be expressed in terms of redox potential Redox potential from more negative to more positive H + /H 2 >NAD/NADH + > cyt b Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ >complex Q> complex III> complex 4> O 2 / water

oxidoreductases:

oxidoreductases Oxidases- removal of H from substrate using oxygen as H acceptor Cyt oxidase- produces water L-a.a oxidase, Xanthine oxidase, ADH- produces H 2 O 2 Dehydrogenases- transfer hydrogen and electron to co factors- eg. NAD, NADP, FAD dependent dehydrogenases
