slide 1: The Correct Fit Of A Dog E-Collar Is The First Step
To Achieve Success In Training And Tracking
The team Dogtra has made an extensive time investment in developing their advanced e-collar
solution to aid in dog training tracking and educating. For years they have been working
alongside the most advanced trainers and K-9 officers to fine-tune the device to offer flexibility
in providing to the needs of all dogs. The revolutionary development of their training device
brings together the technology used in e-collars and GPS systems to deliver an effective
solution ready for use on a smartphone.
One of the key features of success in using Dogtra’s PATHFINDER regardless of whether it is for
training or tracking purposes is to find the correct fit. They offer the e-collar in two size
options. The PATHFINDER is for medium to large dogs and the PATHFINDER MINI is a GPS dog
tracker for smaller breeds under 15 lbs. It is important to opt for the correct size collar for the
dog when the owner invests in training collars
Finding the correct fit is key to the performance of the device. Dogtra’s trusted team of experts
gave the following pointers to help customers ensure they gain optimal benefits from using it
effectively.
On the inside of the collar is a stainless-steel section containing two contact points. These
contact points should make firm contact with the dog’s skin without pressing into it. The best
way to determine the looseness of the collar is to see if a finger can fit in between the contact
point and the dog’s neck. If not then it is too tight and will hurt the dog. They also recommend
that the collar is shifted to allow the contact point to be on the side of the dogs neck.
If the collar is fitted too loosely it will start shifting around the dog’s neck causing skin irritation
and can be highly uncomfortable for the dog. The moving contact point will result in
inconsistencies in training efforts.
slide 2: The Dogtra team emphasizes that even though they took immense precautionary measures in
the design of the collar to prevent any kind of irritation on the skin such as opting for surgical
stainless-steel contact points and anti-microbial plastic users should never leave the collar on
for too long. The skin of especially smaller dogs can become sensitive around the area of the
contact points causing discomfort for them. It is also best to check if there are any signs of
irritation on the skin when the device is removed.
Another design feature is the ability to determine the level of stimulation best for the dog and
its personality. The levels vary between 1 to 127 and the owner should start at the lowest level
and observe the dog see changes in their behavior to determine the strength of the signal. The
user can continue to increase the level of stimulation to the point where it is effective but
never too high as this will cause unwanted discomfort to the dog and deliver an adverse
reaction negatively impacting the training session. The owner will know that they’ve found the
correct level of stimulation when the dog shows a mild reaction such as stiffening neck muscles.
Any higher level will be too much for the dog’s comfort and will only become a distraction.
