Philosophy of Hand Hygiene :

Philosophy of Hand Hygiene I have spent more than 4 decades in Profession and many years as a Microbiologist attached to many Institutes, the least cared practice is Good hand hygiene, Many patient's get infected after bone surgeries and many others with more critical care and succumb to Hospital associated infections, It certainly shows after centuries of education on hand hygiene few act as Ambassadors to good hand hygiene and control the infections More the people are seniors they are least bothered about a good hand hygiene. In reality Infections can be prevented and rarely cured with emerging drug resistance . What everybody should know about Hand Washing Germs are so small that you can not see them and they can be found almost everywhere. Washing your hands can help to get rid of germs. Germs can make you sick. There are many types of germs (e.g., bacteria and viruses). Bacteria and viruses cause illness and disease. Some illnesses and diseases that are caused by bacteria and viruses are very serious. Some examples of illnesses and diseases caused by bacteria and viruses are: colds, flu, pneumonia, hepatitis A and shigellosis. Why is hand hygiene so important? Millions of germs are picked up by hands during every-day activities. Many of these are harmless but some cause illness such as colds, flu and stomach bugs. Hand hygiene is essential to prevent the transfer of these germs to other people and surfaces to stop the spread of illness. Suggested teaching ideas: Find out why it is important to wash our hands regularly. Make a set of instructions to teach people how to wash their hands thoroughly. Use Art / Computing materials to make posters encouraging people to wash their hands. Display the 'Have you washed your hands?' poster around your classroom.
