Premium member Presentation Transcript Sammy’s Sandwiches: Sammy’s Sandwiches Team 2 Phuong Huynh, Dave Lucas, and Jia ZhengIntroduction: Introduction The restaurant: Sammy’s Sandwiches Family owned, fast-food restaurant Situated in Fairfax Growing popularity in the DC area Rated “Best N ew R estaurant in the DC Area” by the Washington Post Ready for expansion!The Problem: The Problem Opening 50 new restaurant locations over the next five years Our task To advise on how to control and manage this rate of growth Staffing employees for the new locations Setting up management teams for the corporate office and on-siteOur Solution: Our Solution We look to the various levels of organizational behavior to offer solutions for Sammy’s Individual Level – desired employee and managerial traits Group Level – norms, roles, and efficiency Organizational Level – structure and hierarchy of authority Global Level – implications of expansionIndividual Level: Individual Level Look for employees with strong self-concept High self-esteem and high self-monitoring are key for new employees Personality – conscientiousness, openness to experience, extraversion Use hiring process to attract internally motivated employees Personality surveys, behavioral interviews Managers – both on-site and regional Require proactive personalities Internal locus of control 21 st century managing techniquesGroup Level: Group Level Well qualified, experienced on-site managers are key They bring the formal work group together into a cohesive unit Establish and enforce norms aligning with corporate vision Low power distance, family-feel, small traditional sandwich shop Clearly defined roles for managers will result in a trickle-down effect of well-defined roles Ability to maintain task and maintenance roles High initiating, high consideration leadershipOrganizational Level: Organizational Level Mechanistic structure Required to maintain consistent image, customer service, and quality standards across the restaurant chain Expansion can be messy – mechanistic structure helps organize and smooth the process Competitive advantage – maintain the small family oriented atmosphere Both a Functional and Divisional structure Functional on-site Divisional by location On-site Managers report to Regional Managers who report to the boardGlobal Level: Global Level Expansion within the U.S. seems wise for now.
