Open source technology :-:

Open source technology :- . Open Source is a development methodology which offers practical accessibility to a product. Open-source software is based on the idea that the user cannot only view but also can change the source code of the existing application.

ADVANTAGES OF O.S.T :-:

ADVANTAGES OF O.S.T :- 1.Reduced dependence on software vendors. 2.Open source software gives you the power to control your software's code. You have the right to modify the code to suit your requirements. 3.Anyone can easily modify the code of software to produce a new featured software from existing one or to reduce the functionalities of existing one.

INTRODUCTION TO LINUX:

INTRODUCTION TO LINUX In September 1991, Linus Torvalds , a second year student of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki, developed the preliminary kernel of Linux, known as Linux version 0.0. 1. It is free . It is open source OS. The Linux is also called as GNU linux .

INTRODUCTION TO LINUX:

INTRODUCTION TO LINUX Free software, as defined by the FSF (Free Software Foundation), is a "matter of liberty, not price." To qualify as free software by FSF standards, you must be able to: Run the program for any purpose you want to, rather than be restricted in what you can use it for. View the program's source code. Study the program's source code and modify it if you need to. Share the program with others. Improve the program and release those improvements so that others can use them.

Features of linux :- :

Features of linux :- Linux is free and open source. Linux is multiuser and multitasking. High security. No viruses. Ideal for internet web server. Fault taularent . Highest portability. Continuoes upgrades.

Difference between linux & windows:

Difference between linux & windows #1: Full access vs. no access #2: Licensing freedom vs. licensing restrictions #3: Online peer support vs. paid help-desk support #4: Full vs. partial hardware support #5: Command line vs. no command line #6: Flexibility vs. rigidity

Uses:-:

Uses:- General purpose use on desktops and servers. Linux has been used for many computing platforms PC, Supercomputer,… Different purposes including: computer architecture support, embedded systems, stability, security, localization to a specific region or language, targeting of specific user groups, support for real-time applications. Linux runs on a wide variety of computer hardware, including mobile phones, tablet computers, network routers, televisions, video game consoles, desktop computers, mainframes and supercomputers.

CONCLUSION:-:

CONCLUSION:- Linux will run on a wider range of hardware than even Windows. Linux is not same as windows. Linux has been used for many computing platforms PC, Supercomputer,… Not only character user interface but graphical user interface is available. Linux is a leading server operating system, and runs the 10 fastest supercomputers in the world.
