Cloud computing is a paradigm in which information is permanently stored in servers on the Internet. Slide 3: What is cloud computing? In Business View: When it’s smarter to rent than to buy….. Slide 4: What is cloud computing? Techie’s View: It offers the ability to access softwares or information that can be delivered on-demand, over the internet, without the need to store it locally…… Slide 5: The cloud is a large group of interconnected computers. It is a document-centric concept not PC centric. An Introduction to Cloud Computing Slide 6: The Traditional Model : Building and running applications complex, expensive, and risky. Electricity needed to power the servers as well as the systems to keep them cool. New Model (Cloud Computing): Provides all the infrastructure needed to run applications over the Internet. Why cloud computing? Slide 7: Cloud Anatomy Slide 8: IaaS- Infrastructure as a Service The IaaS layer extends the virtualization layer by providing the mechanisms to provision and control the virtual machines in a utility computing manner. The end user is able to control cost by knowing exactly how much each virtual machine instance costs per minute/hour. Slide 9: Seeks to minimize the hassle and complexity in deploying an application in the cloud. A programming platform is presented to the end user, typically a developer at this point, which leverages and API and programming language. PaaS- Platform as a Service Slide 10: SaaS- Software as a Service Simple way to get the application functionality you need without incurring the cost of developing that application. In this layer, even the platform has been abstracted away from you as and end user. Slide 11: Applications of Cloud Computing Slide 12: Future Applications of Cloud Computing Slide 13: 10/2/2010 13 CLOUD COMPUTING BENEFITS REDUCED COST INCREASED STORAGE FLEXIBILITY HIGHLY AUTOMATED MORE MOBILITY ALLOWS IT TO SHIFT FOCUS Benefits of Cloud Computing Slide 14: COMPLIANCE DATA MOBILITY 10/2/2010 14 PRIVACY SERVICE LEVELS RISKS OF CLOUD COMPUTING Risks of Cloud Computing Slide 15: Cloud computing is still struggling in its infancy with negative and positive Comments. Academia is bit slower to react. Its security deficiencies and benefits need to be carefully weighed before making a decision to implement it..
