Waste water?:

Used water……….. Includes……… Food scraps, oil and soaps, human wastes, Industrial wastes. Waste water? 03

Slide 4:

Where does the water from the washer go? When you flush the toilet where does the water go? WWTP 04

Introduction::

Introduction: Production of drugs is associated with generation of pollutants some of which are toxic and persist in environment Emits: odors including solvent vapors Releases: large volumes of wastewater and solid wastes which are hazardous Volume and characteristics of wastes depends on raw materials and equipment used and manufacturing processes employed. 05

Stages of Treatment::

Stages of Treatment: Primary Treatment Secondary Treatment Tertiary Treatment 06

Primary Treatment :

O rganic materials, metals (such as zinc, silver, cadmium, thallium, etc.) acids, alkalis, non-metallic elements (such as arsenic or selenium) are generally resistant to biological processes unless very dilute and can usually be neutralized Primary Treatment 07

Secondary Treatment :

Secondary Treatment Activated sludge process An activated sludge process includes: An aeration tank & A settling tank 08

A generalized, schematic diagram of an activated sludge process. :

Tertiary Treatment :

Tertiary Treatment (Disinfection) Purpose: Destruction of harmful micro organisms i.e., disease causing germs 10

Reverse Osmosis :

Reverse Osmosis Schematics of a reverse osmosis system (desalination) using a pressure exchanger. 1 : Raw water inflow, 2 : Fresh water flow (40%), 3 : Concentrate flow (60%), 4 : Raw water flow (60%), 5 : Concentrate (drain), A : High pressure pump flow (40%), B : Circulation pump, C : Osmosis unit with membrane, D : Pressure exchanger 1 1
