Great Events Theory :- A crisis or important event may cause a person to rise to the occasion, which brings out extraordinary leadership qualities in an ordinary person. Process Leadership Theory :- People can choose to become leaders. People can learn leadership skills. It is the most widely accepted theory .How to become a leader? : How to become a leader? You don't have to be tall, well-spoken and good looking to be a successful leader. You don't have to have that "special something" to fulfill the leadership role. What you have to have is clearly defined convictions - and, more importantly, the courage of your convictions to see them manifest into reality. Only when you understand your role as guide and steward based on your own most deeply held truths can you move from manager to leader.Slide 5: What followers are looking for? The followers may be employees , associates, co-workers, teammates or anybody else. what they are looking for is someone in whom they can place their trust. Someone they know is working for the greater good - for them and for the organization. They're looking for someone not only that they can - but that they want to - follow.Manager vs Leader: Manager vs Leader “Managing is about efficiency Leading is about effectiveness” Both a manager and a leader may know the business well. But the leader must know it better and in a different way. “ A good manager does things right. A leader does the right things.”Managers: Managers Managers have a position of authority vested in them by the company. subordinates work for them and largely do as they are told. Management style is transactional , in that the manager tells the subordinate what to do, and the subordinate does this not because they are a blind robot.Work focus & Seek comfort : Work focus & Seek comfort Managers are paid to get things done, often within tight constraints of time and money. They thus naturally pass on this work focus to their subordinates. They generally like to run a 'happy ship'. This leads them to be relatively risk-averse and they will seek to avoid conflict where possible.Leaders: Leaders Leadership is about innovating and initiating . Leaders with a stronger charisma find it easier to attract people to their cause. A leader is someone who has the capacity to create a compelling vision that takes people to a new place , and to translate that vision into action.People focus & Seek risk : People focus & Seek risk Leaders are always good with people , and quiet styles that give credit to others (and takes blame on themselves) are very effective at creating the loyalty that great leaders engender . Leaders are comfortable with risk and will see routes that others avoid as potential opportunities for advantage and will happily break rules in order to get things done.Management vs Leadership: Management vs Leadership Management Leadership Coping with complexity Coping with and promoting change Planning and Budgeting Setting a Direction Organizing and Staffing Aligning People Controlling and Problem Solving Motivating and Inspiring People Effective Action Meaningful ActionSlide 12: The manager administers; the leader innovates. The manager is a copy; the leader is an original. The manager maintains; the leader develops. The manager accepts reality; the leader investigates it. The manager focuses on systems and structure; the leader focuses on people. The manager relies on control; the leader inspires trust. The manager has a short-range view; the leader has a long-range perspective. The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why. The manager has his or her eye always on the bottom line; the leader has his or her eye on the horizon. The manager imitates; the leader originates.Slide 13: Subject Leader Manager Essence Change Stability Focus Leading people Managing work Have Followers Subordinates Horizon Long-term Short-term Seeks Vision Objectives Approach Sets direction Plans detail Decision Facilitates Makes Power Personal charisma Formal authority Appeal to Heart Head Energy Passion Control Culture Shapes Enacts Dynamic Proactive ReactiveSlide 14: Persuasion Sell Tell Style Transformational Transactional Exchange Excitement for work Money for work Likes Striving Action Wants Achievement Results Risk Takes Minimizes Rules Breaks Makes Conflict Uses Avoids Direction New roads Existing roads Truth Seeks Establishes Concern What is right Being right Credit Gives Takes Blame Takes Blamesconclusion: conclusion My conclusion on this topic is “managers and leaders both have their necessity and importance.” To survive in the twenty-first century , we are going to need a new generation of leaders — leaders, not managers . Most losing organizations are over-managed and under-led. Their managers accomplish the wrong things beautifully and efficiently.Slide 16: Thank you You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
