While newspapers depend on type to tell the verbal story, other graphics are also used to bring the story to life. In addition to type, designers use: Slide 3: Lines Slide 4: Screens Slide 5: Photographs/Artwork Slide 6: White space Slide 7: Designers use type, lines, screens, photographs/ artwork and white space to create all types of graphics which help to illustrate the publication in a variety of ways: Slide 8: Maps Slide 9: Graphs Bar Graph Slide 10: Graphs Bar Graph Slide 11: Fever Graph Graphs Slide 12: Bubble Graph Graphs Slide 13: Graphs 3-D Graph Slide 14: Charts Pie Chart Slide 15: Charts Slide 16: Table Charts Slide 17: Timeline Charts Slide 18: Logos Slide 19: Information graphics, or infographics, as they are commonly called, are used to present information in a pleasing, easy-to-see way. Maps, charts and graphs can present potentially dull, dry facts in a more appealing way than just listing them in a story. Research has shown that more people look at graphic illustrations and photographs than read the articles accompanying them, so it makes sense to use these tools to present important facts.
