Christmas is now over, the gifts have been given; some may go back to stores to be exchanged, the food was great; it took a long time to prepare. :

The house is silent now, each loved one said goodbye with hugs and tears, each person had a seat at the table, but there was one empty chair. :

That chair was not empty due to a guest being late, but had belonged to my dear husband who died, the others were filled by his children, their children and me, no ghost. :

He was here in spirit, he was mentioned many times, Dad loved this and that, Dad always bought the biggest box of candy, and of it, he always ate the most. :

Before, at the head of the table sat a gentle and kind man, seldom grouchy, but could get angry if his family was threatened;he was our best friend. :

He joked and was teased by the grandchildren as they jumped into his chairsaying, this is not your chair, upon its back I put his name; the jokes did not end. :

Each year as holidays come and go, people do too, as we sit at a table with our loved ones we know at any moment, there could be another empty chair. :
