:

“Without sitting idle, doing something wrong is also better for future”. Swami Vivekananda I had met a student of class seven and asked him “can you speak in English”? he replied me that “if you teach me, I could”. The reply of the student was an eye opener to my language teaching. I thought of myself , how can we teach the students of remote background the language skills? I had framed the strategy of my own ,which will work out to the students of rural background. Let me share my experiences of using those strategies in our classrooms. INTRODUCTION

BASICS OF LANGUAGE LEARNING: :

BASICS OF LANGUAGE LEARNING : As we all very well know that language learning is a skill, just like learning cycling , swimming or painting etc, which could be acquired only through drill and practice, so I took this as my basic formula and developed the strategy just to give my learners lots of exposure towards the English language. CORE ASPECTS OF LANGUAGE LEARNING: Even though our aim is to give the learners exposure towards the language for that we need to borne in mind these core aspects. Letters of the English Alphabet Vocabulary (Active & Passive) Grammar (Formal & Functional) Communication skill (Language functions)

FIELD WORK 1 :

FIELD WORK 1 I had taught my students of class seven the letters of English alphabet. I had made them to articulate the letters according to its transcription correctly. I had taught them to write the letters in cursive style . I had took a photo in my mobile when I had written it on the blackboard for my students to practice. THE PHOTO IS SHOWN BELOW

FIELD WORK 2: :

FIELD WORK 2: I had taken topics for vocabulary development like 1.Fruits 2.Vegetables 3.birds 4.Animals 5.trees 6.Flowers. Etc…. I had learnt the names of many fruits when I had started teaching thestudents . for example the name of ‘ Navapazham ’. Is rose apple in English. The name of Flower kanakambaram in English is “ Crossandra ” for vegetables like ‘ Avaraikai ’ its ‘Lentil’ for ‘ senaikizhangu . ’ its ‘ alocasia ’ ,for “ kothavarangai ” its “ gourbeans ” etc. I had learnt from reference websites and I had given the list of vocabularies to my students.

FIELD WORK 3: :

FIELD WORK 3: After enriching my students with cluster of vocabularies ,I had given them practices to frame sentences using the learnt vocabularies . They had started framing simple sentences as follows. I am apple I am red in colour outside White in colour inside I am mostly grown in chill climate like Kashmir in India There is a famous proverb about me “An Apple a Day keeps the Doctor away”. Likewise students had framed simple sentences explaining the features of each and every fruit , vegetable , flower, bird and animal.

LEARNING OUTCOME :

LEARNING OUTCOME Within a short period of 45 days ,I could develop the basic language skills of writing, reading, vocabulary ,Creative writing and communicative skills etc. I spared my lunch time with my class students in developing language skills which helped me as a bridge course for my regular textbook teaching . My field work had given me the confidence that by providing proper exposure towards the language we can enable the children the acquisition of language much better. The student who told me “If you teach , I could “ came to start learning English step by step and the scores of the students had increased a lot after this bridge course .

CONCLUSION :

CONCLUSION After this project I come to realize “necessity is the mother of invention” now , I could proudly say that my students can write in cursive like other English medium matriculation students and they have also learnt manyvocabularies . They are now able to frame simple sentences easily and they can understand the accent of british .these are the outcomes of these project. I am continuing the same strategy in teaching grammar and language functions to the students of class seven . I hope I could achieve my target within this year .I had collected the students drawings of vegetables, fruits, birds and animals, flowers . I had compiled it into a book of vocabularies and when I had shown it to other class students they are very eager now to learn vocabularies to draw and to converse with others in English. This project created self awarenesswithin me that if we know the pulse of our learners we can easily diagnose the learning difficulties and can give remedies to their problems.
