WHAT DOES “PARTS OF SPEECH” MEAN? WHAT ARE THE EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH? : WHAT ARE THE EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH? NOUN : NOUN A noun is a person, place, or thing. Hello Kitty drives a blue car. ADVERB : ADVERB A word that describes a verb, adjective, or other adverbs. A word that tells how, when, where, and how much. Mr. Snuggles wears a helmet when he is very grumpy. Verb : Verb A word that describes an action or a state of being. Lola loves to swim. Adjective : Adjective A word that describes something. Suki and Ginger have orange fur. Pronoun : Pronoun A pronoun replaces a noun I, you, he, she, we, me, they, some, etc. Preposition : Preposition A word that links a noun to another word. It can also show space and time. To, at, after, on, but, with, from, etc. Fluffy found something under the Christmas tree. Conjunction : Conjunction A word that connects other words, phrases, clauses or sentences. Templeton and Cesar may be from different worlds, but their friendship was the bridge that connected them. Interjection : Interjection A word that expresses emotion. Ouch! Oh! Eureka! Woopee!
