Getting Started PhotoPad Image Editor Help v 2.21 2

Opening a Photo:

Opening a Photo To open a photo, click the Open button on the toolbar, or select Open from the File menu. Using the dialog box, select an image to open and click Open. The image will appear in the canvas viewer, and the layers panel will show that the new project has an image layer .

Creating a new (blank) project:

Creating a new (blank) project To create a new empty project, click the New button on the Home tab of the toolbar and select a page size and orientation from the new project dialog. For more detailed instructions, see Tasks: Creating a New Project .

Making Adjustments:

Making Adjustments Once you have text or images on your canvas, you can make adjustments to them. Here are some easy examples to try: Rotating - To rotate the photo, select the photo in the canvas viewer by clicking it, then drag the rotate handle. Alternatively, specify an angle in degrees on the image's properties panel, located in the right sidebar. Other transformations on the photo can be performed using the scaling handles on the canvas viewer, or by using the other controls in the Image Properties panel. Learn more about Image Properties in the Insert Layer: Image section of this manual. Brightness - To adjust the brightness of the photo, add a brightness adjustment layer by clicking on Brightness in the Color tab on the toolbar. With the new layer now selected, the slider in the properties panel can be moved toward Dark, or Bright. Note that the brightness effect will be applied to all layers listed below Brightness on the Layers list, not just to a single image. Other color adjustment or special effect layers can be added in the same way. Simply click on the type of color adjustment or special effect you want from the toolbar and a layer will be created. Adjust each layer's parameters in the properties panel below the Layers list. If you wish to remove a layer, click the red delete button for the layer in the layers panel. To learn more about layers, see the Concepts: Layers section of this manual .

Creating a Caption:

Creating a Caption To create a caption for a photo, or any kind of text, click the Text button in the Insert tab on the toolbar. By default, the new text box will appear in the center of the canvas. To move the text, drag the text box on the canvas viewer to the desired location. To change the size of the text area, drag the sizing handles (arrows) around the text box. You can also rotate the text using the rotate handle. With the text box selected, enter the intended text into the Text Properties panel in the right sidebar. Other options, like font, size, bold, italics, etc., can also be selected and adjusted from the Text Properties panel. Any of these options can be changed again later by selecting the text layer. To learn more about working with text, view the Insert Layer: Text topic in this manual .

Making Collages:

Making Collages PhotoPad provides a helpful collage creation dialog, which can automatically arrange photos. To open the dialog, click on the Collage icon in the Home tab on the toolbar. In the dialog that appears, you may select a name for the collage, canvas options, a number of photos to use, and other options such as color and randomization. First, select a canvas size. Click on the drop-down list inside the Canvas group to select from a number of page sizes. Use the Portrait and Landscape buttons to select an orientation. A background color can also be selected by clicking on the box next to Background Color. To start adding photos, click the Add Image(s) button. Multiple image files may be selected and added at a time. As photos are added, they will appear in a grid inside the preview window. A photo's order in the grid can be changed by clicking and dragging on it. To remove a photo from the collage, click on it to select it, then click Remove Selected Image. Enable Apply random skew to arrange the images in a slightly irregular manner. When you are finished adding images, click Create. A new PhotoPad project will be created with all the photos added as separate layers. The collage can be further edited like a normal PhotoPad project, and then saved and/or printed. To learn more about PhotoPad projects, see the Concept: Projects section of this manual. For more detailed instructions on collages, see Tasks: Creating a Collage .

Acquiring an Image from TWAIN:

Acquiring an Image from TWAIN PhotoPad provides dialogs for you to acquire images from a range of scanning devices, such as flatbed scanners, multi-function printer / scanner devices, and some webcams. From the Welcome to PhotoPad dialog, click Acquire an image. In the Select Source dialog that appears, highlight the TWAIN source to acquire from and click Select. The scanning dialog provided by your devices manufacturer will open. Click the button labeled Acquire, Scan, Snapshot, or similar. When your device finishes scanning, a new project will be created with your acquired image as a new layer. To acquire subsequent images, click on File -> Acquire from TWAIN..., or click the Acquire button on the tool-bar .
