This technology can help us to fight with most common problem of the whole world i.e. POLLUTION. Basic idea behind this innovation is that, consider a single mobile phone on a street in the hand of a person, and that person continuously talking on that phone and moving on road from one place to another place. If by some technology we are able to filter air around that person by absorbing harmful pollutant in the air using some absorbent in the mobile. Since a single mobile phone can’t make any difference, Now think what if this technology can be implemented in any phone. Since total number of mobile phones are now comparable to net population of world. If all the phone filter air around us than that will make much difference and we can filter out lot of polluted air around us. The Innovation: The Innovation Chosen industry : Public Services Chosen technologies: Mobility Objective : To Reduce Air Pollution Approach : We can meet our objective using current technology and some simple application of chemistry. Description: Idea is that we can use a small fan inside mobile phones that can suck air around person when he is talking on that phone. That air go into a filtration chamber inside mobile and pass through thick layer of activated charcoal which can absorb most of the harmful pollutant. And that filtered air will get out through other outlet provided in that phone. If large number of phones will do this work simultaneously in a given area that lot of air can be filtered out using those phones and air pollution can be reduced. Maximum Points: 10 Compelling need for the innovation: Compelling need for the innovation We all are familiar with the adverse effect of Air Pollution on Living Beings. Air pollution in India is a serious issue with the major sources being fuelwood and biomass burning, fuel adulteration, vehicle emission and traffic congestion. While, India is the second-largest mobile phone user with over 900 million users in the world. It accounted for over 10% of the world’s online population in 2011 . So, using our proposed Idea of using a small fan inside mobile phones that can suck air around person when he is talking on that phone, we can R educe Pollution in air to much extent. Maximum Points: 20 Impact: Impact Our Idea will influence the entire society if implemented successfully. We will be using a small piece of activated charcoal and a small fan which will be cost effective and more efficient. We will evaluate our success of the innovation on the basis of the change in the design of mobiles which will be caused due to implementation of the device having a small fan and a piece of activated charcoal . Also our success will depend upon the functionality of device. For s ure o ur idea is going to sustain over time because of the necessity of mobile phone now a days. Now mobile phone is not just meant for communication purpose only, rather many use for Entertainment purpose also. Maximum Points: 30 Implementation: Implementation THINGS WE NEED:- A Mobile phone (Every mobile will work) A small piece of Activated charcoal. A small size fan (about 1cm in diameter) Inlet and outlet area for air. An electronic circuit for activating fan. Maximum Points: 50 Implementation: Implementation Since from the very first slide of this presentation I force to activate that device while people talking on phone. Actually there is a reason for this. First reason is that when people talk on phone generally phone is outside and air around that phone can be sucked easily. Second reason is that, since fan also consume some battery power and if fan will be activated when someone call on phone than that phone most probably outside the pocket and as the call disconnect fan will get off because after disconnecting fan will be inside the pocket. So battery power will be consumed by fan only when it is necessary. Maximum Points: 50 Implementation (Activated Charcoal): Implementation (Activated Charcoal) Activated Charcoal “Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, activated coal, or carbo activatus, is a form of carbon processed to be riddled with small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions .” (Source : Wikipedia) We can use activated charcoal because of its special adsorption property. And also because of its cheap availability. Small piece of activated charcoal black about 1cm diameter size can be made which can be placed above the air filtration chamber of the phone. If after purifying charcoal get saturated then it can be replaced by new block. Block will be available anywhere in market at a very reasonable cost about Rs 1/- per black. Old saturated block can be collected by sellers or as a garbage material and can be recycled for other purposes. Implementation (Fan): Implementation (Fan) As we already mentioned that fan size of 1cm diameter can be used. Various reason for using small size are:- If fan size is small than it can be fitted in almost all phone without spoiling its look. If fan size is small than it will produce almost no noise while functioning when someone talking on phone. If fan size is small that power consumption is also less. Implementation: Implementation Inlet and Outlet Area Inlet and outlet area for air can be at the side of phone as a small whole like a charger or 3.5mm Jack whole. Or their can be small opening on the back and forth of phone where back opening is place where polluted air will be suck in and filtered air can be given out at the forth opening because it is the place where speaker mouth so he can inhale only filtered air. Now many people can breath without concerning about the pollution in the air. They also need not to put any effort to make it pollution free. Every time they will call any person the device will operate and absorb most of the harmful substances in the air . Every year we have various summits to discuss about "How to make the environment pollution free" across the globe. So It is a major concern for all countries and these acted as our source of inspiration that how can we preserve our air from pollution . There is no place in world where we can’t find any mobile phone. Since our innovation can be fitted in any mobile phone whether it is a small featureless or any latest multimedia phones.
