Ethos -character When establishing ethos you must gain the trust of the audience. The audience must be able to relate to the speaker. Ethos must be established first in order to get
anyone to listen to the speaker. Senator Barack Obama “The Race Speech”

Logos – the reasoning behind
an argument Deduction – the listener is given very specific examples
in their speech President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt’s “A Day That Will Live in Infamy” speech after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor Induction – the listener has to come to their own conclusions Based on two types of logic:

Pathos – bringing the emotions of the audience into the speech. Examples: Kindness/unkindness Anger/calmness Kindness/unkindness Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech
