Ten Things You Can Do Today To Live 10 to 15 Years Longer Presented By: David Yglesias

DISCLAIMER :

DISCLAIMER David is Not a medical doctor, just a yoga/fitness instructor that is getting older. He is not too thrilled about the aging process and has spent the past 18 years experimenting, studying, learning and reading about nutrition, aging, diet and exercise. This presentation is what David has found to work best for him, you may require a customized program just for your unique needs. David enjoys sharing his knowledge with others in hopes that he challenges others to think for themselves, do their own research, find what works best for them; hopefully adding 10 to 15 years of vibrant living to their lifespan. David respects others opinions on diet whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian (David’s description of himself – a vegetarian that eats a lot of fish) or carnivore. You may or may not believe in supplements. Again the following is what has gotten David the results he desired. David Yglesias with his fellow yoga teacher Victoria Brunacci.

Do you know how you train an elephant? :

Do you know how you train an elephant? Everyone…. No David… How do you train an elephant?

Elephant Training 101 :

Elephant Training 101 Tie A Baby Elephant to a small stake with a small rope around it’s foot. Let it fight the rope and stake for weeks until it gives up hope of ever being able to pull the stake out of the ground. Once broken, the elephant can grow to be 12,000 pound (6 tons) and never once again try to pull the now tiny stake out of the ground or break the rope, which could easily be broken.

Ask yourself… Do I have the same self limiting beliefs as an elephant? :

Ask yourself… Do I have the same self limiting beliefs as an elephant? I am too old to change my ways I can’t quit smoking, I’ll gain weight? Everyone in my family is overweight… It is in my genes. I am too busy to exercise. High Blood Pressure/Cholesterol Runs in my family. My grandparents both died of cancer, I am doomed.

Change Does Not Need To Be Sudden and Complete…. :

Change Does Not Need To Be Sudden and Complete…. It does not need to be shocking, like jumping into ice cold water… Gradual but consistent change is much longer lasting.

Today there is no “one” fix all. :

Today there is no “one” fix all. The to key to longevity is adding as many layers of protection as possible to fight aging and disease.

The biggest problem we face in America today is not terrorism – it is obesity. :

The biggest problem we face in America today is not terrorism – it is obesity. The average American gains 2 pounds per year from the time they are in college. At age 40 they look in the mirror one day and they are 40 pounds overweight, are showing signs of diabetes and hypertension. They wonder… What the hell happened??? Then they feel overwhelmed and give up.. 40 million Americans affected It starts with our children and the habits we are teaching them….It leads to adult obesity

David’s Favorite Quotes… :

David’s Favorite Quotes… "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."Mahatma Gandhi Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words.Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny. Mahatma Gandi

Balance is the Key… :

Balance is the Key… The Taoist Yin Yang Principal - used to describe how seemingly disjunctive or opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, giving rise to each other in turn.  Our bodies are in the same epic battle…

#1 Quit Smoking… :

#1 Quit Smoking… Sorry this is an obvious one, but a KILLER! Every year 440,000 Americans die from smoking related deaths.

#2 – Drink Enough Water :

#2 – Drink Enough Water What does water do for us: It flushes toxins out of our body It carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through the blood and helps to cool the body through perspiration.  Water also lubricates our joints. Dr. Howard Flaks, a bariatric (obesity) specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif, says, "By not drinking enough water, many people incur excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness and water retention."

Water Drinking Tips… :

Water Drinking Tips… The best times to drink water is right after awaking from sleep, your body is dehydrated and right before a meal, as it suppresses appetite. Try lemon or lime in water instead of soda. It has an alkalizing effect on the body and removes toxins. Further problems often develop when the sensation of thirst urges an intake of water, and instead, soda pop, coffee, or alcohol-containing beverages are taken to quench the thirst.  While these beverages contain water, they are actually dehydrating fluids.  Not only do they eliminate the water contained in them, but they also cause you to lose further amounts of water from your body's reserves!

Slide 14:

Fancy Formula, but for most it is 6 to 8, 8 ounce glass of water per day.

Over time they become ingrained in the fabric of our food choices and become habits.

Eat Healthy / Eat Smart :

Eat Healthy / Eat Smart Eat Carbs low in glycemic index The "glycemic index diet," "GI diet," and "low glycemic diet" are more than diet books. They refer to a system of ranking carbohydrate foods according to how much a certain amount of each food raises a person's blood sugar levels. Know good carbs from bad carbs

#5 – Take Supplements :

#5 – Take Supplements As we age we produce and retain less important vitamins and nutrients. Our only defense is to take supplements.

Complete Greens :

Slide 23:

COENZYME Q10 TO BOOST ENERGY Your body produces coenzyme Q10; it helps cells manage your body's energy supply. But as you get older, production decreases. The only way to get back up to youthful levels is by taking a supplement. Recent studies suggest that coenzyme Q10 may fight cancer, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease, and may thin the blood to help prevent heart disease. Q10 is also packed with free-radical-fighting antioxidants, which can slow the signs of aging. How much? Researchers recommend 100 mg a day. You won't find Q10 in a multivitamin or get any useful quantity from food. Tip: If you're taking satins, which can reduce Q10, consider upping your intake to 200 mg.

Slide 24:

GLUCOSAMINE TO GREASE YOUR JOINTS You don't have the same amount of cartilage in your joints that you had at 19 -- maybe you've noticed. To reverse the damage and actually rebuild cartilage, take glucosamine, made from the shells of crabs and lobsters. In a 3-year study of 200 people with joint problems published in the Lancet, glucosamine reduced joint pain and stiffness by up to 25 percent and helped prevent the progression of osteoarthritis in the knees. The British Journal of Sports Medicine says that 88 percent of people with joint problems reported less pain after 12 weeks of treatment. How much? 1,500 mg a day. Tip: Rubbing a cream made with glucosamine on a sore joint may relieve pain, according to an Australian study.

The Omegas…. :

The Omegas…. Improve skin and hair Reduce blood pressure Aid in the prevention of arthritis Lower cholesterol and triglycerides Reduce the risk of blood clot formation EFAs aid in the transmission of nerve impulses and are needed for the normal functioning of the brain

The Omegas we need… :

The Omegas we need… Omega-3 Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA)—legumes, leafy vegetables, flax, flaxseed and canola oils Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)—fish oil Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)—fish oil, breast milk Omega-6 Linoleic Acid (LA)—vegetable oils, seeds, nuts Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA)—borage and primrose oil Arachidonic Acid (AA)—meat, dairy products

Slide 27:

VITAMIN E TO SLOW THE EFFECTS OF AGING This is one of the most potent antioxidants. "Vitamin E may help reduce the risk of certain eye diseases, heart disease, cancer, even Alzheimer's disease," says Jeffrey Blumberg, Ph.D., a professor of nutrition at Tufts University. Bonus: Studies show it also reduces muscle damage after exercise. How much? Up to 400 international units (IU) a day, since most people get just a fraction of that from their diets. (A typical multivitamin has 45 IU.) You can also increase your intake by eating more nuts and oils. Tip: Buy natural vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) rather than synthetic (dl-alpha tocopherol), which is harder for the body to put to use.

Slide 28:

Vitamin C is one of the safest and most effective nutrients, experts say. It may not be the cure for the common cold (though it's thought to help prevent more serious complications). But the benefits of vitamin C may include protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling

Slide 29:

Getting enough fiber in the diet can lower the risk of developing certain conditions: Heart disease. Evidence is now growing to support the notion that foods containing soluble fiber (such as oats, rye barley, and beans) can have a positive influence on cholesterol, triglycerides, and other particles in the blood that affect the development of heart disease. Some fruits and vegetables (such as citrus fruits and carrots) have been shown to have the same effect. Cancer. The passage of food through the body is speeded up when fiber is eaten. Some experts believe this may prevent harmful substances found in some foods from affecting the colon and may protect against colon cancer. (However, a recent study conducted by Harvard University concluded that eating high-fiber food did not appear to protect people from colon cancer.) Other types of cancer that are linked with overnutrition and may be prevented by a fiber-rich diet include breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and uterine cancer. Diabetes. Adding fiber to the diet helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is important in avoiding diabetes. In addition, some people with diabetes can achieve a significant reduction in their blood sugar levels and may find they can reduce their medication. Diverticular disease. Diverticular disease is a condition in which small pouches, called diverticula, develop in the wall of the colon. In a small percentage of people, these diverticula become inflamed or infected, a condition known as diverticulitis. Diverticular disease can cause pain, diarrhea, constipation, and other problems. Gallstones and kidney stones. Rapid digestion leads to a rapid release of glucose (sugar) into the bloodstream. To cope with this, the body has to release large amounts of insulin into the bloodstream, and this can make a person more likely to develop gallstones and kidney stones (in addition to diabetes and high cholesterol).

Slide 30:

Benefits of Milk Thistle Herb The herb milk thistle could be called the liver's best friend. Milk thistle use not only protects the liver from toxins but it also plays an important healing role too. Milk thistle helps to repair liver cells and promotes the regeneration of new cells. In summary milk thistle benefits the liver by ensuring that the liver's daily tasks are carried out and that the liver has the ability to rejuvenate itself.

Isotonix is the best delivery… :

Isotonix is the best delivery… Isotonix?  How does it work? Basically when you add water to the powder it becomes "isotonic", which means having the same fluid pressure as body fluids. So when the "isotonic" form enters your stomach the body recognizes it as the same and does not have to work so hard to prepare it for absorption. Therefore the stomach can pass the nutrients on (into the small intestines where absorption occurs) faster and very little is lost. Within 40 minutes of taking isotonix they have been fully absorbed in the small intestines. Drink your vitamins and ditch the pills!

#6 – Get Enough Sleep :

#6 – Get Enough Sleep Q: How much sleep is ideal? A: Studies show that people who sleep between 6.5 hr. and 7.5 hr. a night, as they report, live the longest. And people who sleep 8 hr. or more, or less than 6.5 hr., they don't live quite as long. There is just as much risk associated with sleeping too long as with sleeping too short. The big surprise is that long sleep seems to start at 8 hr. Sleeping 8.5 hr. might really be a little worse than sleeping 5 hr.

If you not sleeping well… do Something about it… :

If you not sleeping well… do Something about it… Chamomile Tea Before Bedtime Exercise Early to promote good sleep Avoid Caffeinated beverages in the PM Alcohol is a sleep killer. Other Supplements…

L-Tryptophan Isotonix :

L-Tryptophan Isotonix Isotonix® L-TryptophanIsotonix L-Tryptophan, not to be confused with the culprit of after-Thanksgiving dinner lethargy, is an isotonic capable form of the essential amino acid, l-tryptophan. L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that helps maintain healthy levels of serotonin in the brain which helps regulate mood. Isotonix L-Tryptophan provides maximum results by including niacin and Vitamin B6, members of the B vitamin family, which promote the normal absorption of L-tryptophan. By supplementing with L-tryptophanW, healthy levels of serotonin in the brain will help enhance mood and support sleep.

#10 – Antioxidants :

#10 – Antioxidants Free radicals are natural byproducts of the oxygen that cells use during normal function, and they can harm neighboring cells during the oxidation process. The body can become exposed to free radicals when it is breaking down sugars from food, breaking down medicines and chemicals, or when it is exposed to pollutants such as cigarette smoke or excessive alcohol consumption. Antioxidants are needed to repair the damage free radicals can inflict on your body. Yin/Yang Principal – If you happen to do something destructive to your body (Yang), antioxidants offer a great line of defense to bring you back in balance (Yin).

Slide 40:

The primary site of free radical damage is the DNA found in the mitochondria. Mitochondria are small membrane-enclosed regions of a cell which produce the chemicals a cell uses for energy. Mitochondria are the "energy factory" of the cell. Every cell contains an enormous set of molecules called DNA which provide chemical instructions for a cell to function. This DNA is found in the nucleus of the cell, which serves as the "command center" of the cell, as well as in the mitochondria. The cell automatically fixes much of the damage done to nuclear DNA. However, the DNA in the mitochondria cannot be readily fixed.

What do Free Radicals do? :

What do Free Radicals do? Scientists have now proven that free radicals play a major role in the aging process as well as cancer, heart disease and strokes, arthritis, cataracts, Parkinson's Disease, allergies as well as many other diseases. A single free radical can destroy an enzyme, a protein molecule, a DNA strand or an entire cell. What's worse is that in a fraction of a second it can cause a chain reaction that produces millions of additional free radicals.

Free Radical Scavenger :

Free Radical Scavenger According to Jean Carper, author of the best-selling book Stop Aging Now!, "Chemically, free radicals are simply molecules that are missing an electron and are desperately trying to snatch one from any other molecule. In so doing, they become molecular terrorists. They can be neutralized by antioxidants, compounds that give up one of their electrons, thus returning the free radicals to normal and stopping their cellular mayhem.

Antioxidants :

Antioxidants Antioxidants are found in many fruits, vegetables and berries. The Problem is you cant eat enough of overcome the free radical damage
