A Hindu temple (Sanskrit: mandira), is a house of worship for followers of Hinduism. :A Hindu temple (Sanskrit: mandira), is a house of worship for followers of Hinduism.


Temples in India were regarded as sacred places or vital links that can connect finite man to infinite God. The temples are built on the principles of vastushastra, known as “Shilpa Shasthra”. The shilpa shasthra describe temple as a symbolic, miniature representation of the cosmos. A typical Hindu temple consists of the following major elements - an entrance, often with a porch; one or more attached or detached mandapas or halls; the inner sanctum called the garbagriha, and the tower build directly above the garbagriha. :Temples in India were regarded as sacred places or vital links that can connect finite man to infinite God.
