Slide 1:Written by Sara Polito and Kristen Yasinsac The Earth Revealed….At Last!

Slide 2:Reporter: “Hello, I’m reporter Ask A-Lot, for the World Wide News. Do you know where I can find Earth? I’m here to conduct an exclusive in depth interview with her. I’ll be asking Earth some very personal questions.”

Slide 3:Earth: “That’s me. I’ve heard you’re a very inquisitive reporter.”

Slide 4:Reporter: “Now that we’ve been properly introduced, could you give my readers, the real scoop on your personal matter?”

Slide 5:Earth: “I am just an average sized planet, compared to the other planets in my solar system.”

Slide 6:Reporter: “What do you have in common with the other planets?”

Slide 7:Earth: “We all travel around the same star, the sun.”

Slide 8:“Mars and I, are the most alike.”

Slide 9:Reporter: “What makes you different from the other planets?”

Slide 10:Earth: “We are all unique. We each spin on our own axis, at different rates.”

Slide 12:“We all have our own place in the solar system. The distance between the sun and each planet is different.”

Slide 13:“The time it takes each planet to rotate around the sun varies. Some are fast, some are slow. Our size, color, temperature, and atmospheric makeup differs as well. We are all individual planets that follow our own track.”

Slide 15:Reporter: “Do you have any hidden talents?”

Slide 16:Earth: “Yes. I am the only planet in my whole solar system, that can support life. People, plants, and animals, all live on me.”

Slide 17:Reporter: “Do you have any companions that travel with you?”

Slide 18:Earth: “Yes, my friend the Moon. My gravitational tie keeps us close.”

Slide 19:Reporter: “Let’s get down to the facts. What is your actual weight? I know it may be embarrassing, but my readers have inquiring minds.”

Slide 20:Earth: “I weigh 6.6 sextillion tons (6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons”).

Slide 21:Reporter: “What are your proportions? How many square miles are there, on your total surface area?”

Slide 22:Earth: “196,940,400 square miles. I am in perfect proportion to my body mass.”

Slide 23:Reporter: “Rumors have it, you have three types of moving techniques. Is this true?”

Slide 24:Earth: “Yes. I like to spin like a top.”

Slide 25:“I enjoy traveling around the sun.”

Slide 26:“And I move through the Milky Way, along with the sun, and the rest of the solar system.”

Slide 27:Reporter: “Speaking of rumors, I’ve heard there’s an old flame that you have been flirting around with, for quite some time.”

Slide 28:Earth: “The sun? It helps me, stay in my orbit. It keeps me warm, and lights up my day. It also helps change my seasons, as well travel along. The sun makes it possible for people, plants, and animals to live and grow. It is a true friend.

Slide 29:Reporter: “How do you feel about gravity?”

Slide 30:Earth: “I love it. It keeps the creatures in my water and land grounded.”

Slide 31:“Without gravity, everything would float away.”

Slide 33:Reporter: “Are you under any stress?”

Slide 34:Earth: “Yes. It is normal for my crust to be under a certain amount of stress.”

Slide 35:“I am made up of pieces called ‘plates’. I look like a giant jig-saw puzzle. My plates are under tremendous stress, as each one moves. They are driven by heat currents within my interior core.”

Slide 36:Reporter: “Are there parts of you that have never been exposed?”

Slide 37:Earth: “Yes. My three most inner layers. My mantle, outer core, and inner core.” Mantle Outer core Inner core

Slide 38:“These three layers, along with my crust, make up my lithosphere. My ageless beauty comes from within.”

Slide 39:Reporter: “You have a lovely crusted layer. Where did it come from?”

Slide 40:Earth: “My crusted layer is adorned with rocks and minerals.”

Slide 42:Reporter: “You seem so active. Do you ever stop moving?”

Slide 43:Earth: “No. I hope I’ll be able to spin forever. Spinning will help me keep my balance for billions of years to come.”

Slide 44:“If I stopped spinning, I would go out of bounds, and bump into another planet or moon.”

Slide 45:Reporter: “What are your highest and lowest points of land?”

Slide 46:Earth: “My highest point of land is Mount Everest. It is 29,028 feet above sea level.”

Slide 48:“My lowest point, is the bottom floor of the Dead Sea. It is 1,286 feet below sea level. Nothing lives there, because it is too salty.”

Slide 49:Reporter: “Speaking of seas, where is your deepest, most hidden part of your oceans located?”

Slide 50:Earth: “The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. It’s 36,198 feet below the surface.”

Slide 52:Reporter: “Do you suffer from water weight? What percentage of you is made up of water?”

Slide 53:Earth: “I am composed of 71% water and 29% land mass.” 71% 29%

Slide 54:Reporter: “What have been your highest and lowest temperatures?”

Slide 55:Earth: “My highest temperature was in Libya. I reached 136° F.”

Slide 56:“My lowest temperature was in Antarctica. I dipped down to 126.9° F below zero. I thought I was going to freeze my polar cap off.”

Slide 57:Reporter: “You’ve been around for a long time. Would you mind revealing your celestial age?”

Slide 58:Earth: “I don’t mind at all. I am 4 ½ billion years old.”

Slide 59:Reporter: “Do you have any additional comments, to make before we end this interview?”

Slide 60:Earth: “Yes. Some people are not respecting me. I used to be a beautiful planet. My land, water, and air was pure, but now it’s polluted. My ozone layer has holes that let in harmful rays. The greenhouse effect is making me sick. It will take thousands of years for me to recover. I need everyone’s help, to make me healthy again.”

Slide 61:Reporter: ”I’m sorry Earth. I had no idea, things were so out of control. Now that you’ve set the record straight, I’m sure people will be more thoughtful of you. After all, you’re the only planet that can support life in our solar system. We need you to stay healthy.

Slide 63:Pollution Facts 1. In the U.S. alone, each person throws away an average of 4 pounds of garbage each week, half of which could be recycled? 2. Up to 87% of indoor pollution and toxins, like formaldehyde and benzene (caused by plywood, fiber wood, carpeting, and paint, can be removed by growing philodendron type plants indoors? 3. Most plastics thrown away, don’t brake down and degrade for approximately 500 years. 4. A growing number of consumers are avoiding buying products processed with too much unrecycled type packaging. 5. Up to 40% of all landfills are filled with paper products, that could have been recycled. 6. The 3 R’s are reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Slide 69:7. If all the Sunday editions of a major city newspaper were all printed on recycled paper, it would save approximately 75,000 trees. 8. An ecosystem is a balanced connection between all things on the earth: soil, water, air, plants, animals, insects, and people. When one part is interrupted or changed, the whole chain is affected – people included. 9. Raising animal livestock requires ten times the energy to produce, than it does to raise vegetable crops. 10. 50% – 85% of all plants and animals live in rain forests, and some haven’t even been discovered yet. 11. Trees play a vital and important role in absorbing carbon dioxide gases. Trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. Carbon dioxide is a major cause of global warming, and may cause a greenhouse effect.
