Applications : 

Applications There are a lot of different applications available Audio Video Web design Graphics Spreadsheets Presentations

The units : 

The units There are 23 units covering different ICT skills Most are single units In one lesson a week, you would expect to cover one of these units in a year Web page creation - Desktop publishing - Digital imaging Some are ½ units Creating video - Creating Sound - Creating animations for the Web There is one special unit worth 1½ - ICT Skills for Business This is unit must be undertaken. It covers all the basics of ICT

Qualifications : 

Qualifications For any unit you can achieve a . . . PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION The First Award is achieved by passing the ICT Skills for Business (1½) and one of the ½ units

What award can I get? : 

What award can I get? Over two years everyone should get a First award – the equivalent of ONE GCSE Some will be able to do an extra unit and at the end of two years gain TWO GCSE equivalents

Assessment objectives : 

Assessment objectives Each unit has between 4 or 6 assessment objectives. Unit 1 assessment objectives AO1 Working with files and folders, backing up, shortcuts AO2 Searching the Internet and using Email AO3 Creating a presentation AO4 Producing business documents using a word processor or DTP AO5 Create a simple spreadsheet AO6 Use a database Each assessment objective has descriptions of what you need to do to get a pass, a merit or distinction Taking the performance on each assessment objective decides the final grade for the unit

Creating a Report : 

Creating a Report You need to have evidence that you have met all the requirements of each of the assessment objectives The evidence will be held in a word processor or DTP file For the most part the evidence will be in the form of screenshots showing what you have achieved and a sentence or two of explanation The report will be used to assess each of the units.

Keeping on track : 

Keeping on track Each week you will be given an assignment which you can access from the ICT site You will be directed to instructional material to help you perform the tasks in the assignment The work will be done in class and finished off for prep Reports will be reviewed regularly and you will be told where you a coming short in a particular assessment objective

Examinations : 

Examinations There are no examinations When most of the group have completed a unit we call in a moderator who will arrange to check the work and award the level appropriate to each student

Laptops and software : 

Laptops and software You will be using your own laptops for the course Although much of the instructional material is based on Microsoft applications (eg MS Office) and operating systems (eg MS XP and Vista) there is no reason why other operating systems cannot be used, and other software applications
