Belshazzar a Historical Figure? Belshazzar was mentioned as a ruler in Daniel Dan. 5:1,30 “Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords … That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.”

Slide 16:

In the mid 1800’s archaeologists unearthed tablets in Babylon ruins that listed Belshazzar, son of Nabonidus on an inscription.

Slide 17:

Another inscription shows that Nabonidus, put Belshazzar in charge: "Putting the camp under the rule of his oldest son . . . His hands were now free; He entrusted the authority of the royal throne to him.” This shows that Belshazzar was the second-in-command at the time of Nabonidus That’s why Daniel was promised a position as the third highest ruler, not the second highest ruler!
