What is the purpose of Upward Bound? : 

What is the purpose of Upward Bound? Upward Bound helps young students to prepare for higher education

Upward Bound participants receive additional instruction in: : 

Upward Bound participants receive additional instruction in: Literature Foreign Language Mathematics Science

How does the program work? : 

How does the program work? Professional staff, based at Co-Lin, assist students throughout the year

Upward Bound staff provide: : 

Upward Bound staff provide: Tutoring during/after school Weekly counseling Additional classes on weekends College prep Field trips Educational summer session

Tutoring : 

Tutoring Teachers are available, on a weekly basis, at each school to assist Upward Bound students with academic assignments

Counseling : 

Counseling Upward Bound staff visit the schools on a regular basis to monitor student progress

Classes : 

Classes Once a month Upward Bound students & staff meet at Co-Lin for a morning of structured classes intended to reinforce major subject areas such as Math, English & Reading

College Prep : 

College Prep Upward Bound staff provides assistance with the ACT application, the ACT fees & the paperwork required for college admission

Field Trips : 

Field Trips Opportunities to visit college campuses, museums & educational activities are scheduled throughout the year

Educational Summer Session : 

Educational Summer Session An intensive six-week residential session simulates the college experience by combining academics & social activities

What is in this for the student? : 

What is in this for the student? Aside from the benefit of additional assistance in schoolwork, the student receives compensation

Compensation : 

Compensation Stipends Tutoring sessions Saturday classes Meals Dances Extended trips

What do the students have to do? : 

What do the students have to do? Students must commit to communicate with the Upward Bound staff on a regular basis

Do the parents have to do anything? Parents are requested to meet annually with the Upward Bound staff
