A newspaper is placed on the floor. Ask a representative from each group to come to the front. From an appropriate distance each representative throws a coin (or a small object) so that it lands and stays on the newspaper. If they’re able to do so, they get a point for their team. If they fail, they have to identify a flashcard or answer the teacher’s question using the target structure. Repeat the same procedure for the following rounds. Make sure that all students get a chance to participate.CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 THROW IT! Divide the class into small teams. Each team receives the same amount of newspapers and is assigned an empty box (or basket). The boxes are placed at the same distance from all the teams. At the signal, students crumple each piece of newspaper into a ball and they throw it into their box. The team that can throw the most balls inside their box within 15 seconds is the winner. The other groups have to answer the teacher’s questions, identify flashcards, make sentences using a specific tense, etc. Repeat the same procedure for the next rounds.CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 CATCHING THE DICE: Divide the class into small groups. They should sit in a circle. Two students sitting opposite each other take a die and begin to roll it... both at the same time. Whoever rolls a six, gives the die to the person on the left, who does the same thing. As the two dice will be passed on at different times, one catches up with the other. Whoever receives both dice at the same time has to take a flashcard and follow the instructions written on it. For example: Make a sentence in the “Simple Present”, make a negative sentence in the “Simple Past”, make a question using “Going to”, etc. Students should roll the dice as quickly as possible to prevent receiving both dice at the same time.CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 MONKEY ! Divide the class into two teams. Ask them to stand far away from each other. You can use makin ’ tape or chalk to mark the playing area for each team. (See next slide) Students are not allowed to step outside their area. You’ll be the first “Monkey” so stand on the “Monkey” area. Give a soft ball to one of the teams. Tell them to throw the ball from one team to another, but every time a student throws a ball he has to say a word in English... any word... it doesn’t matter what the word is, as long as it’s in English. No repetitions are allowed. As students are throwing the ball to each other you try to catch it. When you catch the ball, the student who threw it becomes a monkey as well, and he is asked a question using the structure you’re working with. Now there are two “Monkeys” (you and the other student) trying to catch the ball. When either one of you catches it, the student who threw it becomes the third monkey... and he has to answer a question. As you continue, the “Monkey” group is going to get bigger and bigger and BIGGER! At the end, the last student who didn’t become a “Monkey” is the winner... or if you’re running out of time... the team with more students is the winner. Really fun... but just be careful... Safety should be your #1 issue!CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 BALLOON RACE Use chalk or maskin ’ tape to mark the staring and finish line on the floor. Divide the class into small teams. Ask two representatives from each group to come to the front. The two representatives from each group have to stand back to back. In between them a balloon is placed. They have to race to the finish line without dropping the balloon. No hands are allowed to keep the balloon in place. If they drop the balloon or if they use their hands, they have to go back and start all over again. The first ones to cross the finish line get a point for their team. The other students have to answer the teacher’s questions, write a sentence on the board, say 3 words that belong to a category, etc. Repeat the same procedure for the next rounds. Make sure that all students get a chance to participate.CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 HIT ME! Divide the class into small groups. Ask a representative from each group to come to the front. Blindfold each one and give them a rolled-up newspaper. Ask them to turn around three times. On the count of three they try to ‘hit’ each other with the newspaper. The first one to hit another student is the winner and gets a point for his team. Teammates can guide their representatives by shouting directions: “To the left! No, to the right!” Students who didn’t get a point have to identify a flashcard, write a sentence on the board or answer the teacher’s questions. Repeat the same procedure for the next rounds, by asking different representatives to participate. Note: Don’t use a complete newspaper, just a few sheets will do. Otherwise the game can get too violent.CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2: CREATIVE CLASSROOM GAMES – PART 2 PASS IT ON: Give a card (or a piece of paper) to each student. They have to choose an interesting / difficult word they’ve learned recently. Students draw a picture and write that word on the card. Ask students to stand up and form a circle. As music plays students keep passing the cards to the person on their right. When music stops, students have to look at the card they now have... give them a few minutes to try to remember what the word means or how it is used. On the count of three they all have to make a mimic and shout the word written on the card. Play music again and students start passing the cards... repeat the same procedure for the next rounds. At the end of the activity you can ask students which words they had forgotten but now remember. You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
